Gailey Inks Deal

Good Point Houser,
You just said a mouthful!! I agree and I appreciate your positive attitude, since mine has been a little on the slide lately. Hopefully this upcoming season will hold wins over the dog pound as well as many others. This coming season will definitely be a big season for him to show what he is capable of doing.

I sincerely hope this is the right move. Because some changes were made to the coaching staff, and our new AD will be in place, I suppose that I may have received what I demanded in my private, personal agenda.

I just hope that 7-5/6-5 seasons will no longer be seen as accomplishments, in any way.

I would have liked to see more of Rad's comments in the linked article.

More of the same....6-6 or 7-5 for 5 more years, sad!

Let me get this straight, Gailey has won 56% of his games while at Tech (28-22) and gets a raise (while NEVER beating Ugag)??!!?? In school a 56% out of 100% was a F. My teachers always taught me to strive for the best, but I guess at Tech 56% is enough to garner a 5 yr extention?????

Hell I think I will go for my P.h.D at Tech, if all I have to have is a 56% or better to graduate. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wtf.gif

Well, OK, get it straight: He didn't get a raise. His compansation is the same as it was. He got a contract extension.

You obviously didn't go to GT. 56% can be a very good test score at GT.

By your scale, a very high percentage of coaches-if not more than half-are failing. According to simple mathematics, 50% of games are lost.

Given the recruiting restraints at GT, 56% is a pretty good score. That is not to say that we can't do better, but it is harder to succeed at GT than most any Div 1-A school. Which raises the question: Why would any great coach want to put up with the academic crap at GT? You'd better consider that question before throwing out a coach with a winning record.

If you can run with the likes of UGA

Gailey has never beaten Ugag and one of those losses was a record loss at 51 to 7. Is playing a close game sometimes considered satisfactory? You say "we're running with the likes" of them. I do wish we had the llikes of their record the past five years. Does that mean that Gailey is also running with the likes of a Utah, NC State, Virginia, and VT? Gailey has never had an above average season at GT. Yet, some are pleased because he wins one or two games a year he shouldn't..only to turn around and lose one or two games he should win. Its called inconsistency and that recruiting machine of a coach we have coupled with NCAA infractions now kicking in only to result in less than average recruiting classes (see this year..ranked around #50 and didn't even fill our decreased allotment) is a big concern. Gailey is a nice guy, but I do question whether he is the right coach and whether he'll ever achieve a great season. There is absolutely no history since he's been here to say otherwise.

A 56% winning percentage is acceptable if you are happy with a middle-of-the road program. The schools mentioned in this thread - UGA, Auburn, and Miami, not to mention FSU, Florida, etc., etc., etc. - would not put up with it. Their objective is to win consistently, not just to say 'we won more than we lost'.

Glad to see them add the incentives for the assts. Makes the job much more interesting. Of course, I think all of their (CCG included) basic compensation should be built around incentives from the get go. Winning record. Conference championship. Bowl game. Beat the mutts, etc. It's a competitve arena. No place for a just another day at the office mentality. I'm sure they all want to win. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Based on the blah feeling I have over this, subconciously I guess I either wanted a coaching change, or more likely wanted Rad to at least have told the fan base about his decision to extend the contract.

If this was done as a type of Clintonesque pardon from Braine on his way out, I can't imagine that Radokovich is happy about it. If so, who could blame him. This needed to be Rad's decision. Maybe it was.

This had to be done guys. To change things now would basically mean we head into spring practice with no coach. How do you find a coach at this point and get ready for next season? Rad will watch this year closely and depending on how it goes, will either buy out whatever is due and let Gailey go, or let him stay. I can't imagine why this is news to anyone...it had to happen, nothing else makes any sense at all.

NCJ........I absolutely agree. As most, I am not happy with our offensive coaching performance. Rad will give him this year to show progress. I expect Rad will give him some input. A lot of us believe the playing calling changes that have been vaguely announced don’t mean much if anything at all. The feeling is it is just a smoke screen. But I will be there hoping something will be different and the offensive performance will be improved. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rockon.gif

I may be wrong but didn't his old contract run through next season.
I like the incentives as well, I wish they would've put more in it, like a bonus for CG himself if they beat UGA.

You can't have a coach in the last year of his contract...you go ahead and fire him if you aren't going to extend. Being a lame duck means absolutely no recruiting can get done and the current players know he won't be back. I doubt you could find one example of a coach "saving" his job in the last year of the deal. Since we didn't fire Gailey, we had to extend.

Yeah, your probably right. Just wish we could see a little bit more before we comitted to a 5 year deal. Oh well, hope it all works out and they have a break out year.

I believe our best bet is that Rad in no way will consider 6 or 7 wins a year to be an accomplishment.
Everyone understands that no number of wins is guaranteed, but no one will call any season a success unless we seriously contend for the league championship. I confidently predict that this is the mindset of Coach Dan, and CCG needs to get on board with it if he wants to remain.

I would be surprised if Rad has a number of victories in mind. But he's been around a top notch program and I hope he takes a long look at how we do things and makes a decision on whether he sees the things in place that can make us successful. If he thinks Chan can do it but needs to make changes I hope he makes that clear to him. If he decides we need someone new, he needs to act on that. It's all on him as far as I'm concerned.

I am saying that I hope that Coach Radokovich's expectations are to win conference championships. My personal view is that CCG would had loved to have won championships, but has not expected to.

Its like my high school coach use to say, winners expect to win, losers hope to win. With Gailey there is too much hoping we beat Ugag, hoping we play in the Acc Championship Game, hoping we go to a decent bowl. D%mm@t, we need to expect to win, and find ways to win the close games.
