Gailey Inks Deal

I can tell you one thing, Coach Gailey and the TEAM expects to win championships every year. That's why you play the game, you don't play to go 7-6 every year. It is a team effort and we win as a TEAM and we lose as a TEAM.

I fully expect to be playing in the ACCC game this year. I predicted last year the winner of the ACC would have at least two losses and I expect the same scenario this year. The ACC is not a cake walk anymore.

If you know him at all, you know him better than I.
That said, I believe the entire regime of the last several years has had expectations lower than say Notre Dame.

I am not saying that ND has fielded a more competitive team in all those years. I am only referring to expectations.

I highlite that this is merely my opinion. It's also my opinion that expectations from the top down will be higher immediately.

I'm buying in w/you on that statement. Although I haven't agreed with every play that has been called on offense, I also haven't agreed with every play called on defense. I'm sure Coach Gailey fields a team with the expectation of winning every game. He has been limited in some areas of personnel as many coaches have been, and even though I am not satisfied with our records or performances in some games, I still believe he is our best bet for HC. After this coming season, we'll be able to tell something much better about it. I just hope we all jump in as a fanbase and get behind him and this team. I've said it before and I'll say it again,
YELLOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

I would agree that the administration may have had lower expectations, but I've never met a coach who didn't expect to win. They may believe that they have to play their best, but putting together a game plan is where they figure out what they think will work. They spend hours finding ways to put their players in position to be successful and win. Now, sometimes the players can't make the plays, or the plan is bad, but I've never met a coach who expected to lose. In fact, some of the frustration fans have is that they would rather lose in an exciting fashion. Coaches mostly don't care about that. They do what they think gives them the best chance to win, whether it's boring or high risk/reward.

NC,
You've just brought up some very good points. Very good because in some of these games, if one man misses his assignment, it may very well be the difference in a W or a L. And that also applies to each and all of the coaches. There's been much debate over the coaching, with much of it being absolutely true. But I have never been knowledgeable enough of the great game of football to know at times who goofed. Was it QB who through the ball errantly or a receiver who blew his pattern. Was it a lineman who didn't execute his blocking assignment for that particular play or was it a fullback who stepped the wrong direction. Without us having full knowledge of our playbook, I think we would be hard pressed to accurately judge each man/coach. Now I'm sure we have some here who are very well capable of doing this and doing it well, but not I.

Exactly right. I don't know enough to figure out what went wrong most of the time either, but from spending time with my brother who is a HS head coach, I do have some idea of how technical football is. Sometimes you are just bigger, stronger or faster and no amount of techinque can change things. But taking one wrong step, or a bad angle on a cut can spell the difference between a good play and a bad one. Some of the posters on here can probably diagram plays from watching film and tell us what the problem is. And if a particular position is an issue, and guys continue to do the wrong things, or use bad technique you can zero in on coaches. But for must of us it's simply do we win or lose, and in the end that's all that really matters. But I think we're a lot closer to being really good than being bad, primarily due to our staff.
