Gailey meeting at the Emerald Coast YJ Club...

Not to hijack, but I wonder if Ron Rogers knows

that oldfogy named him by name as one of the former players who personally told oldfogy that he couldn't stand Gailey. This was either on this board or the unmentionable board or both. I thought it was funny at the time because it just seemed so out of character for Ron, who's a great guy who loves Tech.

I think we're more like #9 public school in the country according to U.S. news and world report, with UVA the only ACC school ahead of us. Just didn't want anyone bragging/quoting the wrong stats to other people.

I have not looked, but he referenced "the latest USNews rankings that just came out"...and several people chanted it out simultaneously as if they had seen some ranking. I do not keep up with that stuff because I do not need USNews to let me know that we are among the top schools in the US.

Jeez, red....how many functions did we attend.....

....where Wes was just about to introduce GO'L but first he'd ask, "Are there any working members of the media in the room?"?

CG has no patent on the press-screening technique. ;)

Re: Jeez, red....how many functions did we attend.....

He'll be at lunch bunch soon and those will be the first words out of his mouth.

Well I know a lot of people who know Ron Rogers and from what I have been told by more than a few sources, this is indeed a true statement.

Re: Not to hijack, but I wonder if Ron Rogers knows

Correct it was a Rodgers (rogers) as I recalled he was sort of blond headed and played defense. Remember that was better than year ago now more like 1 and 1/2 years just prior to the Cuse game in Orlando. He stated if "CCG ever let our QB (RB) back on the field he (CCG) should be fired immediately." I never said he (Rodgers/Rogers) hated CCG but inferred it. He also told me he was back at Tech to get (finish) his schooling and was working in the weight room. I assumed to get more workouts. What I did say was that an active player talked with me and he said he couldn't stand CCG. If you quote then quote or paraphrase correctly! Oh yes, I did have a witness with me when he (Rodgers/Rogers) made that statement.

Re: Jeez, red....how many functions did we attend.....

Anyone who speaks 100% candidly in public with a reporter present with no consideration to the repercussions is a fool, in my opinion.

Re: Not to hijack, but I wonder if Ron Rogers knows

Ron's my brother in law - or will be next Saturday. I doubt he said that.

It's a quote I keep seeing, and I have bit my tongue because it's not my place to speak for Ron - but I haven't heard him say anything like that. He wants Gailey to do well.

Ron does love O'Leary, and wishes he was still here, but he usually is pretty reserved about saying anything negative about Gailey. Not saying he loves the guy, but Ron isn't the kind of guy to be that negative - especially for public consumption.

I will say that Ron might give me a litle hell about having an internet converstaion of any sort. That oughta be fun.

I think there are points to both sides here. While I agree with what many here have said about not wanting the media around, I have to also agree with Stateline regarding one particular point I think he is trying to make here, which is:

O'Leary didn't like the media and you are right in that he didn't want the media around at those events. That said, because O'Leary was such a character (the media fed off his one liners and brash interviews) he was able to work the media to bring a positive tough guy spit nails image to GT football. The O'Leary years at GT with the media can be described better with the phrase "We don't take shit from Anyone including you media bums!" This attitude turned off a lot of fans, but it also turned on a lot of fans. I happened to love it. O'Leary was the tough guy no-nonsense coach I believe GT needed at the time. When he left however, I didn't lose sleep over it. I am of the opinion that GOL is a good coach. I don't think he was great by any stretch of the imagination.

Gailey has in most respects not been able to use the media to his advantage. In fact his personality is so good guy, and his ball control offense is so boring if anything he has solidified his image as boring. If I am in the GTAA marketing department, I would work with Gailey to create a coaching image that compliments GT football. Right now the only thing that stands out about GT's football image is Tenuta and his swarming attack. Gailey lacks Identity BIG TIME and in this regard I think it multiplies what SLJ is saying about the media. Fans who recognize this are looking for any opportunity whatsoever even if it might not be in the best venue for Gailey to use the media. The media can be a good tool. Look at Spurrier, Richt, and O'Leary for that matter.

So while I am sensitive regarding alumni and fans getting the most information for the money from the Coach at an alumni event, and that being jeopardized by the media being present, I also understand that Gailey needs to do a much better job using the media to create positive buzz about Tech. Attacking them after the Miami game and such has just been assinine on his part.

I am hopeful that Radakovich is able to work with the GTAA to help Gailey improve his ability to use the media to create positive buzz.

Re: Not to hijack, but I wonder if Ron Rogers knows

Stick, yes I told him that I would quote him on one of the boards. So yes he knew then and if he denies it then I and the person with me knows the truth.

Re: Jeez, red....how many functions did we attend.....

I agree with you BOR but I think what some of us are saying to stateline is that they are two different things. I don't think GO'L used the alumni meetings to make his point with the press he used his press conferences and post game interveiws for that. Alumni meetings are just that imo, opportunities for poeple who are part of the Tech family to get to know coaches informally and share inside information (or as much as can be shared). The press has no place there imo. If nothing else, alumni meetings are where you should be able to talk smack about ugag without it making it to print.

Gailey does need a PR guy though to help him with his public personna. Hopefully Rad can give him a hand.

Re: Jeez, red....how many functions did we attend.....

BarrelO'Rum: Thank you very much.

If I was the head coach of Georgia Tech I wouldn't have to worry about whether the media is present because I am not going to discuss intrinsic details of the offensive or defensive schemes and I am not going to discuss the players as I would in a coaches only meeting. Is that what some of y'all expect at these meetings? I wouldn't, I expect it to be a rally for Georgia Tech football. If I was Gailey I wouldn't tell y'all nothing I wouldn't tell the media.

Re: Not to hijack, but I wonder if Ron Rogers knows

Well I'm sorry but to take a comment regarding our QB after a tough UGA loss and turn it into a general comment that the coach must go, is a bit much.

Re: Jeez, red....how many functions did we attend.....

Don't think that's what these meetings are for stateline so that's why we're having this disagreement. I haven't been to a Gailey meeting but went to one with Ross years back and several with Cremins. What I heard at those meetings didn't need to be in the paper.

Re: Jeez, red....how many functions did we attend.....

N.C. At least now you know that I am not looking for reporters to publish stories on the details of Reggie Ball's audiblizing signals or whether Tashard Choice can get downfield fast enough to be effective as a pass reciever. For example. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif
