....where Wes was just about to introduce GO'L but first he'd ask, "Are there any working members of the media in the room?"?
CG has no patent on the press-screening technique. ;)

I think there are points to both sides here. While I agree with what many here have said about not wanting the media around, I have to also agree with Stateline regarding one particular point I think he is trying to make here, which is:
O'Leary didn't like the media and you are right in that he didn't want the media around at those events. That said, because O'Leary was such a character (the media fed off his one liners and brash interviews) he was able to work the media to bring a positive tough guy spit nails image to GT football. The O'Leary years at GT with the media can be described better with the phrase "We don't take shit from Anyone including you media bums!" This attitude turned off a lot of fans, but it also turned on a lot of fans. I happened to love it. O'Leary was the tough guy no-nonsense coach I believe GT needed at the time. When he left however, I didn't lose sleep over it. I am of the opinion that GOL is a good coach. I don't think he was great by any stretch of the imagination.
Gailey has in most respects not been able to use the media to his advantage. In fact his personality is so good guy, and his ball control offense is so boring if anything he has solidified his image as boring. If I am in the GTAA marketing department, I would work with Gailey to create a coaching image that compliments GT football. Right now the only thing that stands out about GT's football image is Tenuta and his swarming attack. Gailey lacks Identity BIG TIME and in this regard I think it multiplies what SLJ is saying about the media. Fans who recognize this are looking for any opportunity whatsoever even if it might not be in the best venue for Gailey to use the media. The media can be a good tool. Look at Spurrier, Richt, and O'Leary for that matter.
So while I am sensitive regarding alumni and fans getting the most information for the money from the Coach at an alumni event, and that being jeopardized by the media being present, I also understand that Gailey needs to do a much better job using the media to create positive buzz about Tech. Attacking them after the Miami game and such has just been assinine on his part.
I am hopeful that Radakovich is able to work with the GTAA to help Gailey improve his ability to use the media to create positive buzz.
