Gailey's comments to Kyle Jackson....

I think this was more of doing a favor for a friend...they werent ever gonna hire him!! CCG would be dumb to leave when the studs are coming!!

Mr. Madison Avenue Gailey needs to pull his name out before noon tomorrow if this was all a publicity stunt.
Pete Carroll has already said he will be back at USC, but that could be a lie too. Who knows. $5m a year makes liars out of many.

Gailey tells recruit to have "faith" in him. I wonder what that means?

I am thinking that he ain't going anywhere.

I don't think he is going anywhere either, because I don't think he will get an offer. But the silence seems to mean he is holding out hope for one, or maybe a preemptive counter-offer from GT.

The "doing a favor for a friend" theory went out the window days ago. Unless you think the favor is being given to Chan from his friend.

If this was just a consultation and not an interview, then it would be silly to not be open about that fact, unless you are playing games.

Fascinating.

First, I am struck by the fact that our HC and one of this board's top choices for a replacement are on that short interview list.

Gailey is certainly upping his standing in my mind from purely a prestige standpoint, and if you will recall, I am as bad a FOC as there is. I hope some of his critics can at least acknowledge that now they (the buzzoffers and the rest of the peanut gallery) are also obviously more knowledgeable about football coaches than the decision makers at the Steelers and Dolphins.

What I do EXTREMELY STRONGLY think is that if Chan is offered a HC job that Jimbo Fisher WILL be our HC. No doubt in my mind WHATSOEVER. FWIW!

Woah.

Ok, how many college coaches have gone to two NFL interviews this year?

The Rooney Rules require teams to interview a minority candidate. Perhaps mentally disabled people count. That's the only explanation that makes sense.

I skimmed over the Dolphins and Steelers boards and they don't seem real thrilled about idea of Gailey as their HC.

This strikes me in a completely different way. Chan Gailey, imo is screaming and begging to get back into the NFL.
I was buying into Hiveredtech's view that his interview with Miami was only cursory, and that it would leave a great impression on our recruits. That was as long as the flirtation was brief, and if Chan came roaring out publicly that GT was the only place he wanted to be!

With the public announcement of his upcoming interview in Pittsburgh, how can anyone seriously not believe he would rather be somewhere else?

Of course, there is still time. He could announce after the Steeler interview that he is not going anywhere.
That is, if he doesn't get an offer.

It has been posted on another board that Chan met with the coaching staff; told them that if offered a HC job in the pros he was gone. If they were nervous about their jobs to pursue other opportunities. Can anyone confirm or refute this? If true, it certainly could
end up hurting our recruiting class. The good coaches/recruiters will have no trouble finding another job. It certainly makes one wonder if Chan wants to remain at GT.

no doubt about it CG is a HOT PROPERTY!

:hugelaugh:

further evidence of how lucky we are to have him at GT

Fisher has already been hired as a coordinator by FSU.

Chan Gailey is under contract too. That wouldn't matter necessarily, and there are no buyouts on assistants when they are promoted. I am not saying he would take the job if offerred, but I bet he would.

Rad WOULD LOVE to put his stamp on the program. PH ain't going anywhere so that just leave CG.

I really think the only reason he backed out of going to FSU, thought about going to Alabama, and then suddenly "reconsidered" his offer was that they made him a deal that when Bowden retires, FSU is his. He's probably more likely to hold out for that.

LOL! Fischer would rather wait on a promise? Are you kidding me? If we can't get an OC to step up to our HC job, we will NEVER get a coach with Chan's resume ever again.

We are not chopped liver. ANY college OC would take our job if offered.

SECOND...
No matter how continued 'flirting' does or does not reflect poorly on Chan as a person, being on the top five candidates list at Pitt is a credit to his abilities.

Unless he has it in writing, with a penalty if they renig, he's a fool if he stays if someone offers him a HC gig now.

It eez after all a job, no?

I bet Gailey stays. I'm going with the thought that he's interviewing because he was asked and he was asked because of his past relations and to add depth to the search process.

It eez just a stinking interview!

However..
