Game Plan for VT?

So, with Tashard and Grant out for our big game against VT what do you think should be our offensive game plan? And which one will CCG and Bond pick?
1) Go through the air and see if we can connect
2) Give Tashard's touches all to Dwyer
3) Your Opinion

Personally I feel we will try to air it out the first quarter. And, then go the ground very quickly if it doesn't work.

Sounds like the gameplan against VT last year. I'd love to see a solid air attack, but I don't see our receivers being up to it, at least they haven't proven themselves consistently up to this point.
I think CCG wants to keep this team looking the same (He said so on the last coaches show). So that leads me to believe we'll try to run just as much with Dwyer, et. al... Hopefully that will be effective. I'm not holding my breath over it, though.

Mix up the passes and VT can be beat. Throw to Cox and Peak 20 times. 15 times to DJ and CE. Let JD run outside if he likes it. Nesbitt (as a RB only) run him 10-12 times. We won't be able to go up the middle on VT.

Defense needs to drop back and give Royal his room or he will burn us to many times for our offense to overcome. Sack VT 6-8 times...it can be done.

If Sean Glennon starts against us I'd say our chances are still decent. He is not a very good quarterback.

Yeah I think short yardage passing plays to dwyer and a few others will be key too... I think VT will be pissed though coming off of last night... This game is HUGE for the rest of the season.

Let Nesbitt play a lot. Running quarterbacks give VT fits.

Punt on 1st down every time. Hope the defense can INT or cause fumbles deep in VT terr. Call out T. Bell for 4 fG's ......win 12 to 7

I think we'll win if we do the following:

1. Score more points than VT.

game plan:

make sure Glennon is on the field for them at all times

I like to laugh at that guy, he's awful. I feel bad for such a talented team being held back by a qb for the last 2 yrs, that's not a GT Reggie Ball comment either.

VT is such a good football team to have a boob at QB, he costs them every loss that they have. Sad to watch, but not when they're playing us.

Misdirection and play action passes kills the speed of VT. We need to do this all game and throw in a toss sweep pass with Nesbitt as well. I'm not big on trickery but this will keep them honest.

The crowd will be a huge factor Thursday Night as I am bringing up MoF2 so he can watch the game outside the stadium. I don't know if I will let him in or not. He can be obnoxious at times.

Run right at them. Their speed eats up slow developing running plays. Throw quickly to wideouts - they have to make some yards after catch. The QB staying in the pocket too long gets killed by their pass rush. No turnovers. Give up no special team points. Don't let their wideouts get behind you.

Bump...hopefully to get some meaningful discussion that's actually relevant to the final 4+ games for this season....

I like the move to name Evans the starter at RB. Bowling ball type guy that gets lost behind the lineman - I think that style will work better against VT than Dwyer's full speed ahead, run over people approach (although, if we win, Dwyer may very well be the difference late in the game)

I don't think we have enough beef to give anyone a steady diet.

VT didn't blitz at all vs BC. Like, zero. I don't know whether or not that was because they just don't blitz this year, or whether they saw Ryan chew us up and opted to learn from our mistakes. But if they only rush 4 every down, I'd like to see the 5 wide set we ran against Army. I'd also like to see Dwyer and Cox in the Wildcat. I'd also like to see the Cox trap from Army, but probably only once or twice. I'd also like to see Nesbitt manage a drive without fumbling. I'd also like to see the Patented JTS Play Action Pass On Second and Medium Yardage.

On defense, I'd like to see us not blitz when they're in max protect, instead opting for safety support on the pass, or a QB spy, or both.

Those of course are things I'd like to see, not predictions for what actually happens. My predictions for what actually happens are much more dour.

Our offense thrives on the run. With Tashard and Grant out that means Dwyer and Evans will have their work cut out for them. However, I would expect Cox and Nesbitt to get quite a few carries as well to even out the workload and keep the Hokies on their heels. I'm especially interested to see if we put Nesbitt and Taylor in the same backfield (now that will cause Bud Foster to have some heartburn!).

VT's front four will give us fits, especially with the loss of Nate. Taylor will have to rely on quick hits, screens, flairs, etc. to counter the rush he's going to see. If he holds it more than 3 secs, he'll either be sacked or on the run...neither of which is a good thing. Matt Ryan did this a lot to counter our blitz. He always seemed to get the ball off before the blitzes got to him. This can be very frustrating to defenses.

I think losing Choice might actually help us this game. I think without him, we are going to be forced to balance our offense.

Of course, our only chance to win the game revolves around our receivers CATCHING passes.
