1) For Virginia, we had a nice enthusiastic crowd.

2) Congrats to UVA. Al Groh outcoached us and they are a stout solid football team.

3) I really think a Tenuta defense beats that UVA team easily. I am not pushing Tenuta here, but pointing the differences. Tenuta would have attacked a young quarterback and he would have won that battle. He was very good at getting after inexperienced QB's. We didn't do that. We made the kid comfy and they took it to us with comfort and relative ease.

4) I'm sorry, but Josh is not a good option quarterback. He doesn't read the reads, he just chooses to sometimes give it and sometimes take it away.

4b) We have gone to the well all too often with letting Josh's athletic ability carry us and this time it bit us in the butt. Josh is looking like Reggie a bit now. Back up, back up, beat them with his athleticisim...but oops they got me again. He needs to step into the pocket a little.

I just don't remember seeing Navy quarterbacks have this rush problem from the ends.

5) I really believe that Jaybo runs the option a whole lot better and if we stay with the option, then we should run Jaybo some.

6) I absolutely can not stand the new clock rules. I will drop from college football with those rules I suspect. They just are stupid rules put into place to artificially quicken the game. They don't look right. They don't feel right.

7) Why didn't we run the optionto end the game? Navy's average scoring time was about 2 minutes. We had 3:30 left and two timeouts. Why the rush to throw it away?

8) We still have to win a game for a bowl chance.

9) We scored 3 points in the last three quarters and are averaging 17 points or so in the ACC except for Duke. Hmmm.

Tenuta's defense would not have done anything more than we did. uva used a similar gameplan to boston college, and ate us up with screens and short dumps. Any downfield throws were wide open outs, or the corner route that went for a touchdown. With their offensive line, I'm not convinced that our linebackers would have been able to get to the quarterback enough to make a difference.

I also disagree with the enthusiastic crowd part. Maybe we have different standards, but it seemed like too many times people were almost dead quiet while we were on defense, just waiting for us to do something before they got loud. It could just be me though.

Josh had one bad game. One. He has not come close to looking like Reggie to me. With Reggie, I always hoped that he wouldn't screw it up. With Nesbitt, I've always had confidence that we were still in it. The only thing Shaw has on Nesbitt is experience in this offense. I am willing to bet anything in the world that as Josh gets similar experience under his belt, he will be a force to reckon with. We could see this as early as next year. At this point, he is still doing a good job of executing for where he is in knowing the offense. Taking away snaps from him in favor of Shaw would be the wrong decision with that in mind.

I do agree that we should have run the option more. On the drive that resulted in a field goal, I was screaming in the stands for us to attack the edge, and at least make fourth down managable if not score/get a first down. Instead, we go for it all by passing, and are forced to kick.

Good points. Groh saw an opportunity to pick on a back up corner. That was the best part of his game plan.. it worked. Jahi-WD loss was bigger than i thought. Not only in coverage, but he is a force when teams try to throw in the flats or when our D strings it out.. boom there is Daniels. Big loss IMHO

Ugh..the whole time I kept calling option-pitch to the long side of the field (right side from the O's perspective) and it never happened....ugh...

Coley Harvey (of Macon Telegraph) blogged about this game saying it was the loudest he had heard BDS this season.

I must say, the one thing that has kept the Yellow Jackets in this ballgame is the fans. Bobby Dodd Stadium has been rocking like there's no tomorrow. As I said in a previous post today, this is the loudest I've heard the place this season. We'll see how this impacts the rest of the game, as well as future Tech contests.

I thought it was pretty loud. Not Notre Dame College Gameday loud, but pretty loud.

I thought it was loud at times, but there were just as many times when I wondered to myself, "damn, are we just gonna sit there?"

I thought it was pretty loud. My section was up on it's feet more than any other time this season. A few people that NEVER stand up were actually up on their feet.

The two people that are directly in front of my two seats --two women in their 60's I'd guess-- have yet to stand up this year.

The recruits visiting the game said the crowd may not have been the biggest...but it was loud and the fans were really into it.

They just keep the recruits away from the middle of the lower west and the club/white tablecloth seats.

Game was loud for the most part, but people grew tired of standing up and yelling only to have peerman gain 16 yards after 3 missed tackles...

AMEN.

during the game i turned to my friends saying this game was the loudest id heard BDS in a long time. probably since notre dame and college gameday. i think the whole reason we lost was because of poor tackling. ive been seeing it lately in the games but it was never as bad as this past week. i mean even in the clemson game we had Harper wrapped up and he still managed to get out of it. there were countless plays that should had been stopped a good 10+ yards shorter than what actually happened. PJ was just out coached as well. the dive and the qb keep is not working. our best play was the swing out option play. i noticed it a lot in the first quarter (when we scored both our touchdowns) but we started to get away from it. i know maybe that they would have been looking for it by then but come one they were doing it back to back and it WAS working!

josh is a fine option qb. given some time to work and establish a better understanding and capability to read the options he will be THE standout qb in the ACC. you just have to have a little patience. its paul johnsons first year as head coach and he already matched the previous coach (i refuse to mention his name) best start. give the man some break. next year im calling it. we will win the ACC and end the season in the top 10. at least i hope.

All of these items work together. You can't just say Josh isn't a good option QB and then turn around and say that we're relying on his athletic ability to save us. He's not making the proper reads, because on any given play there may be a DE, a DT, and a linebacker in our freaking backfield. That's why the Navy QB's don't have much problem with it, plus they have a ton of reps.

5) I really believe that Jaybo runs the option a whole lot better and if we stay with the option, then we should run Jaybo some.
Short-term solution to a long-term problem. Nesbitt is by far the better option down the road. He needs all the reps he can get, and it may get worse, but once he gets this offense down he will look great.

Pete Carrol was 6-6 his first year at USC. We are ok. Building a Top 10 program is a marathon, not a sprint. Give CPJ another year or two and we'll be sold out every game and bitchin about BCS rankings instead of our players and play calling.
We should all be happy that we are 6-2 and have a legit shot to still win the conference even though we haven't played anywhere near our potential.

next year im calling it. we will win the ACC and end the season in the top 10. at least i hope.

No we won't...Not unless we sign some big time D-lineman that can step in and play right away, even then it won't equal what we are losing...Our young linebackers will have another year under their belt(that killed us against uva, not being able to pick up the backs and dump-offs)but we will have trouble stopping people next year I'm afraid...If we don't improve on offense 09 could be a looong year

I agree. This is the best DL that Tech has had in at least 18 years. Personally I hate to see it wasted by not having a big year this year (kind of like how Chan wasted his best year by scoring 6 points against Wake Forest).

And by the way, I am not saying that Josh won't be the quarterback next year. He will be and will be a great one, but Jaybo is a better "OPTION" quarterback right now. The trickery and reads could give a little advantage to a stagnant offense right now.

I didn't think the CB were that picked on as much as the late dump to the RB that our LBers couldn't handle.

We should have hit that young quarterback in the mouth early and often, even if it meant a high risk defense early on. FSU's Andrews would have had that priority number 1. We blew it by thinking we'd get to the QB through their stout OL. Just my opinion.
