What a shotty draw for an opponent. Lose-Lose game if you ask me. does the fact that we went 5-3 in the conference and beat 2 top 10 teams mean nothing? NC State, Clampsons, U[sh*t]VA all get bowls in the southeast and we get stuck on the left coast in a crap bowl against a crap opponent.

DISGUSTING...I'd refuse to go if it weren't for the players deserving a trip somewhere...they better watch their rears in the fruitcake capital of the world

I swear being a Tech fan sucks the big one sometimes. Ga wins and gets to play in Atl for the third straight week and we have to travel to the West Coast. Isn't a bowl game suppost to be about selling tickets and for the fans to enjoy?? We might have 1,000 fans at best from Atlanta travel all the way to San Fran Sissy!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rant.gif

That would be nice, but then what, another bowl game no-one cares about or remembers??

If this turns into a replay of the Fresno State bowl game I will throw up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puke.gif

All that's left to do is go out and hang 50 points on Yewtaw

Not really. This is a no win situation. If we don't win by 50, it would hurt us. For all I know, Utah may be good enough to keep it close or to beat us if we don't show up, and who could blame Tech for that.

Regardless of what many around here think, we are a heavyweight football program and we have nothing, nothing to gain by accepting this invitation. This is absurd.

Hell, Bobby Dodd turned down a Gator Bowl bid while he was coaching.

I hope we totally shut them down and when Chan accepts the trophy he remarks that he is going to see Swafford and cram it up his arse. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/behead.gif

And to top it off, we're playing in a friggin' baseball stadium again! Just like the Seattle Bowl (but at least then we were playing a major conference team). Both benches on the same side of the field. Looks like pop warner football.
Which makes no sense, they have a dedicated football stadium in SF (old Candlestick is now Monster Park and is dedicated to the 49ers). Why couldn't they play there?
This whole thing is retarded.

Isn't this Emerald as in Emerald Nuts? If so, let the obnoxious jokes from Ugaggers begin

It is costing us just to go...it does not pay enough for us to go...I guess if the players want to go, they are what is important. They just won't have many GT folks there to watch. This whole program is embarrassing.

If Chan was a better coach and we had decent offense, special teams, etc. it would bee different. He only has to look himself and DB in the mirror!

The league makes up the difference in travel expenses since we're fulfilling an ACC commitment.

That's a load of crap. We beat Auburn and Miami and gave UGAg their hardest hitting game of the year. This is all ACC front office.

Ga beat us, won the SEC, and finished with a much better record. Why is that so hard to understand?

And more obvious is the selection of Bowls Games where Tech can beat the opponent at the expense of solid National media exposure against a big programs during prime time. Think small be small best defines Braine's reign at GT. And he continues to deny responsibility for "poor preparation" and shoddy public relations skills on this assignment too. Can you imagine what his record would be as a Head Football Coach? He'd blame the peanut vendors and the security guards for his thoughtless inadequate game plans.

You think our NCAA probation contributed to our being ignored at Music City? It certainly did not help us in my opinion.

Since this thought appears to be your mantra today, I guess I'll respond here to. Braine doesn't pick our bowls, the bowl committees do. You can blame him for a lot, but he didn't look around and decide we should go to San Fran.

NC - athletic Directors "do", and always have, use behind the scenes negotiations to allure Bowl Committees to their programs. Dave did such a good job negotiating with the NCAA investigation committee, and now we are all seeing his lack of recognizing how to secure a good bowl game for team that deserves better than SF. Matra - damn right - if you don't get it, you just don't get it! Public Relations has always been the weakest link in DBraine's reign at GT. You know that, and we all need to take a stance to improve what is being missed. Playing non-national programs in bowl games has defined DBraine's agenda - it's only about winning those games to DBraine. Does he blame Gailey if Utah happens to be more fired up about playing us and wins. Does he throw Gailey to the wolves? Bet he does if we don't play well. I like the wins!!! But I would prefer to see a better effort with relating to public opinion of the GT Program and National Media exposure. You would too wouldn't you? Braine had every opportunity to "court Bowl Committees". And he did a poor job. I still think the NCAA probation played a role in our position.

I agree that he did a poor job. But what you seemed to be saying is that he picked San Fran and went after that one. I don't believe that. We may be there due to incompetance, or we may be there because we had no chance since the MCB director is from Virginia. But I do not believe even Dave could make a choice to send our team to San Fran no matter who the competition was.

As far as your comspiracy theory, the Silicon Valley and Boise bowls were the best we could hope for those years. That was about where we should have been slotted on the ACC list. Maybe Dave could have gotten us a better game, but the opponenets are set by contract. Last year we lucked into the Champs because UVA declinded due to exam schedule. Again we played who the bowl contract determined.

I agree he did a bad job from all indications. But I really don't see this grand design you're talking about. It just doesn't work that way.

Not a grand design - DBraine is not smart enough to see the entire picture, but he will settle for mediocrity on most occasions. He'll take what he can get, with as little work as possible, and blame what goes wrong on everybody else. Notice some schools turn Bowl Bids down - especially if there is no money to be made. DBraine just goes at his responsiblities like a dumb jock from schools we make fun of on a regular basis - just smile alot and blow up when things don't work out right - a come up with lame excuses for why things happened - that would be Dave.

It would be better if DBraine simply said, "Our football program can't get it done, we need any publicity we can get right now, we are always going to be a so-so team, we are only going to schedule bowl games where our team is the odds on favorite, I'm only interested in the win, and if we lose on non-prime time television (preferrably in the middle of the night), who gives a damn, nobody will ever see the game - nobody worth a hoot is going to accept a scholorship to GT anyway, especially with the NCAA braething down our throats, so national exposure is not what we need. I just want us to look like we are winning something". Thank you Dave, you have more or less implied those very feelings already!!!!!

I do not in anyway feel that way about our footrball program or the kids that attend GT as Student Athletes. Better leadership takes this program to even higher levels - and a football coach that has to put up with DBraine's incompetence is always fighting to stay above water. We need better leadership at the top of the GTAA before DBraine does further damage to our Athletic Programs.

I understand where you're coming from now I think, and agree with you. Braine has done some good things for Tech in his tenure IMO but his performance over the last 6 months or so has been abysmal and he needs to leave as soon as possible. Whatever the buyout is, it's worth it.

Actually, a decent opponent, just a crappy venue to hold the contest. Utah is okay, just not a Big Ten, Big-12, PAC-10, or SEC type team. They could have playe for MNC last year, this year's another story w/ loss of Urban Meyer and Alex Smith. I'm more disappointed in the venue and date/time than I am in our opponent. If we TCB next season on the field we will get a big name opponent in a big time bowl. Let's just enjoy the extra game and hope for the win, extend that nation leading bowl winning percentage. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rockon.gif

As always GO YELLOW JACKETS!!!!!!

TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!!!!!!!!!!!
