What I saw made me very proud of this team. You could see the unity and determination in their faces and demeanor.
The play in which Kerry Watkins would not allow himself to be pulled out of bounds, shook off the tackle and dashed down the side for a time-killing first down, was classic Georgia Tech. When you saw Georgia Tech on the field, you saw unity, resolve, focus after adversity, and dedication to excellence and character.
It was a "TEAM EFFORT" that we saw. No super stars, just one for all and all for one. The character of GT was shining on TV. The announcers said over and over how that the amount of adversity was almost too much for any team. But Chan had told them that adversity was something that we all had to go through--that our team would just have to suck it up and play through it.
The announcers said that the team was very calm in the pregame interviews. I say that they were reflecting Chan's personality and approach. He was certainly intense on the sidelines during the game, but he did an excellent job of pregame prep. When Manget went down, I thought that we were doomed, especially after 2 missed field goals. But fellow hivers, the team spirit caused others to rise up to take up the slack of their fallen comrades.
May God bless Georgia Tech, Chan, the team, the injured, the students, the alumni, and the FRIENDS of GT. May GT's sterling character demonstrate to all how football is to be played and enjoyed without the need for cheating, mean spirits, and intentional brutality. May all see that Georgia Tech has HEART!!!!!!!!!!!!
