Georgia Tech "tradition"?

for many years now, Georgia Tech has cruised into games such as tonight's, with a boatload of opportunity to "turn the corner", or "get over the hump" or whatever characterization you want to put on it. Not a make or break game for this year or this program, but certainly a key game in establishing Paul Johnsons reign at Tech. Win and it is instant notoriety and credibility. Lose and it business as usual; lose big and it's back to square one (as far as public opinion goes.) We have a disappointing record in these watershed games. Beating Georgia last fall was about as close to a real important, perception-changing win as we have had in a decade or more. Beating ND in the Gator bowl was stout---but losing to Miami in the Gator Bowl was deflating. Do we have the kind of talent, team, and character established in this program yet to walk into Miami and spank them? I say yes. This is a huge opportunity to take a big lead in the conference race, and solidify our position nationally. We still have a lot of work to do this year, but the aura of several future matchups goes right down the drain if we can't get it done tonight.
Go Jackets.

To be a top 15 team, we have to beat top 25 teams regularly. I'm glad that we finally have a coach who is not intimidated by the big game and can win consistently.

I cautiously expect a win, but I will not consider a loss a major setback. If we lose by more than two touchdowns, our image will take a hit, but we can still win the ACC. Our ACC road games are: Miami, FSU, UVA and Duke. If we win two of those and win our home games, we have an excellent shot to go to the ACCCG. Again, I expect to beat Miami, but I don't look at this as make-or-break.

We need to beat the teams in our division because of tiebreakers, and our division is by far the tougher division.

if we can't beat Miami, then we will have a very tough time with: UNC; UGA, FSU, Va Tech. Theoretically, Miami would rank fifth in that list of five, IMHO. We would also be less than a lock against teams like Wake, UVA and Vanderbilt, especially on the road. Take care of business tonight and the entire picture comes more into focus.

They would rank behind FSU after beating them?

I'm gonna go with:
VT
Miami
UGA
FSU
UNC

In fact, I'm not sure VT belongs in the top spot. You could flip VT and Miami and I wouldn't argue.

UGAy is just sad from what I've seen...

Call me crazy, but I'd probably put Miami at least one stop ahead of FSU on your list...

I could care less what the rest of the country thinks of my team. I'd like the rest of the world to think that Paul Johnson is running an antiquated offense that has no hope. I want to win tonight because Miami is full of jackass thugs that don't deserve to play college football, and stain the entire concept of student-athlete. I want to win tonight because five in a row against Miami is something that they will never be able to forget.

I believe in Paul Johnson, and win or lose tonight, I will not change my opinion of the man.

We might find out tonight if we've arrived, or if we have another year to go. I think we all see Tech becoming the team that plays well consistently enough to be ranked in the top 10. This is the kind of game that those teams win. I'm not worried if we come away with a loss, but I don't want to stink up the place and see the thugs dancing in the street. If we play well, we have a great chance to win, and that will be a change from the history of Tech spending 1 week in the top 25 before choking the next Saturday.

I heard Pete Carroll tell one of the split tail ESPN reporters that every game USC plays is a championship game. We need to approach life the same way. This is a championship game for Georgia Tech tonight.

Go Jackets!

Amen. Winning the game tonight is ENORMOUS. This is the second biggest game in CPJ's history at GT. First would be the UGA game. Winning this puts us clearly at an advantage for the division champs.
