Best theme: Brrr in Boise. Georgia Tech and Fresno State's trip to the Humanitarian Bowl will include a 45-minute bus ride to Bogus Basin, a ski resort in the foothills of Boise, Idaho, where they'll go tubing. Part of their $500 gift package will include a parka, winter gloves and a skull cap. These guys might also get the award for the most practical gift -- a one-year subscription to XM Satellite Radio. (Who's complaining about the Smurf Turf now, hmm?)

I've always heard that both the band and players had a pretty good time when they went up there in 2003, so it's good to hear they're keeping it up.

very true....the players love the Huminatarian Bowl from a "things to do" and gifts standpoint. It is seen as a true Christmas vacation to them. They also feed the players much more food.

On the flip side, Gator Bowl has been considered by more than a decade by players to be cheap, serve mini-meals, and not a lot of fun.

you're right hivered, the guys are probably stoked about being in boise.

and not just a little bit happy either, i mean seriously stoked about that xm radio for a year. i'm sure michael johnson wouldn't want to play at that piece of **** gator bowl on new year's day, i mean really, who the hell wants to play a football game on new years day or even later.

i have xm myself, so i definitely understand their (or your) enthusiasm here.

its okay to NOT try and be happy and look at the bright side of things all the time, just every once in a while hivered, let things be what they are, if they're bad then so be it, they'll get better.

humanitarian bowl equals bad in every way, don't overthink it

It's nice to know the boys will bee having a good time hosted over in Spud Land. Blue field and all not withstanding.

Can we change the name to something else though? John Wayne Bowl? John Wayne Classic? Humanitarian Bowl? Sounds like Joan Baez and Woody Guthrie at the half. Could we at least have a John Wayne/Humanitarian tie-in kinda thing? I didn't think so.

The Strangely Remote Peace and Love for All Mankind Football Game. In Idaho.

THWFS.

You just really struggle with reading comprehension don't you?
Did I say anywhere in my post that:

A- The Humanitarian Bowl was better than the Gator Bowl
B- The players would rather go to the Humanitarian Bowl than the Gator Bowl.

nope...I did not.

I was adding to a post that talked about the gifts and activities that they got from the Humanitarian Bowl. I was simply adding that I know the players always enjoy themselves....nothing more, nothing less.

Thank God these kids get to go have some fun and enjoy themselves...particularly after having to put up with a few ignorant fans throughout the year.

They also have a steak eating competition against Fresno State.

I want to participate in a steak eating competition one day...just not in Boise, ID.

I agree....crappy bowl name.

Sorry man, but that's just a stupid post. The point that was being made is that, all things considered, it's a great trip for the kids. Sure they would much rather be in a BCS game. But the people of Boise treat them right, and for most who are from FL, GA, etc., it's their first opportunity to see real snow and a fun experience.

Nobody said it's where they want to be. Get over yourself.

don't overthink this thing guys
You're the one who has obviously missed a pretty easy point. That being, if you're going to go to a meaningless bowl, this isn't a bad one for the players. Period. Nothing to do with wanting to be there, nothing about why we're there, nothing about preferring it to a good bowl.

Maybe they can go with "Humani-tear-ian John Wayne Bowl Shootout".
Partner.
In case anyone is curious, the Bowl is named for the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame, which is located on the Boise State campus.

I'll bet our guys can't wait for the banquet Saturday to meet this year's Tradition of Excellence Award winner...Charlie Ward. Or maybe they'll get to meet this year's WSHHOF inductees, Kyle Petty, Dikembe Mutombo, and Edgar Martinez.

FWIW, this is one HOF that Dale Murphy is in. Barbara & Vince won a 2006 lifetime award in 2006. And Nate Curry got an award when we were there the last time.
