The University of Georgia football program has positioned itself quite nicely here at the half-way point in its football schedule. Lets all be honest and admit that the team and coaching staff have got the makings of a very special season. They have been both lucky and good. Just two years in, Coach Richt has control of the program and fan base. This is due to his understanding of football, and the people who worship it. Georgia's old nemesis, Steve Spurrier is gone, Florida is now beatable. They already have two straight wins over Tennessee and hope to extent the streak to 3 this weekend. Recruiting, as usual, is going very well. Coach Richt's "program building" has been staggeringly fast and sure.
.
The Georgia Athletic Assoc. is also building for the future success that is sure to follow Coach Richt. Plans for yet another stadium expansion are well orchestrated to eclipse Tech's current meager expansion.
.
Georgia stands at the threshold of a new era under Richt. He was an incredible hire, and yet he was right under everyone's noses in the ACC.
.
Tech must not slide back from the successes of the past 5 years. Tech fans must not allow themselves to begin accepting mediocre decision-making, recruiting, and most importantly, play on the field. Time is now critical to wrestle back away the momentum that Georgia is gaining across the state. Our AA and our coaching staff must be successful at this critical time or UGA will take full advantage of our misfortune this time around. Gone are the likes of Goff and Donnan.

Boy, Mr. Ghost, you said a mouthful!! You have it quite right. We cannot allow a downward spiral here. You said we cannot afford to accept mediocre decisions, etc. I'm all for that but how can we prevent them? That is a VERY IMPT question to me. Do you have that answer? Please

Coaches of major, high pressure college teams get the subtle (and not so subtle) hints that time is NOT there friend. They know that they must perform well and quickly, or they can take their show somewhere else. Fear and pressure are great motivators. All the great coaches know how to not only handle the pressure, but to actually thrive on it.
.
Tech is not in a rebuilding stage. Noone should be given extra slack or time for this. The Tech fan base should let the coaching staff, the AA, and the board know that this is a program that demands superior players, play-calling, and coaches.
.
Top shelf programs do not tolerate poor coaching or poor play for very long....and the coaches at those programs know that better than anyone.

As a huge Dawg fan, I certainly appreciate your compliments. Tech will be OK - keep your heads up.

What are the chances of Richt being picked as Bowden's replacement upon his eventual retirement? Better stated, would FSU make an offer Richt could not turn down? As things stand now, UGA would be a hard place to leave. FSU would have a hard time getting Richt to head south and immediately follow a legend. One can dream, though.

Bobb Dodds Ghost, I still think Tommy Bowden would be the top choice. He is probably salivating while he is thinging about all the good athletes he would have at his command. All it would take is a word from his DAd to the administration.

On the other hand, Richt is already at one of the prime schools in the nation known for its ability to draw good athletes. I doubt he would leave UGA for FSU with a good record this year. The only thing I see to coax him to leave UGA at this time, would be the wheels coming off the wagon, and the fans rearing their rednecked dander.
