I recall one year when Dodd gave five scholarships to Valdosta players while UGA gave two more. IIRC, we got Giles Smith, Bill Middleton and Billy Shorer who all played as sophomores at Tech (freshmen weren't eligible). And, IIRC, around 20 Valdosta players from that one team received college scholarship offers.

(HD) Word had it that Valdosta would actively recruit great junior high players from the states of Georgia, Florida and Alabama. They would offer dad and/or mom good jobs in Valdosta just to get their son on the Valdosta team. I never verified whether the story was true or false.

It was true. They offered one of my jr. hs teammates.

Voting in that would only encourage ESPN in their quest to suck more.
ESPN has basically become the VH1 of the sports world. They are under the impression that every inch of the sporting world needs to be rated.

"For the next 18 months, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNews, ESPNU, ESPN360 and the all-new ESPNBallet will be coming together live each night to receive votes and hear debate from the entire sporting nation on The 10 Most Influential HeadBands in Sports History."

Everybody go vote for Valdosta for Title Town

You need to check out the Parkersburg, WV clip from last PM. They tolerated me starting O Guard and D End for the 85 state runner up team.

When I was interviewing in D.C. my wife and I took a side trip so she could see where I grew up. I don't know why but she told me, "We will never live in Parkersburg, WV!"

Tis true. One of my friends' father is a physician in Valdosta. Once he told me his father's "janitorial staff" made more money than most college educated people, and all they did was play cards and take out the trash. Had 3 people on the payroll for janitorial staff -- and 2 of them did no work, other than making sure their children stayed healthy.
