Laurence Marius is climbing the depth chart and apparently is really shining on the field.

Vance Walker has put on 10 lbs and now weighs 270 and says he is quicker.

We really need Marius to provide some quality minutes at CB. Word-Daniels is apparently much improved and is starting across from Kenny Scott. Marius would help shore up some depth issues this year. I'm glad he is looking good.

If Marius plays I don't know if it is a statement on how good he is or how poor the returnees are he is competing against, probably both

I have read that Word-Daniels is a vastly improved player and has solidified the other CB spot. That cannot be a bad thing.

After seeing our seniors leave and reading about it in the College football rags, I was worried about the D backfield.
However after seeing what we have now, I believe we have reloaded; there is a lot of talent and a lot of competition. This, aong with coaching is a very good mix.

Such a joy to be around I'm sure.

The kid was a 4 star recruit. I thought the whole point of getting kids of that caliber was that they were often ready to play. The article doesn't say he's on the first team, only that he is looking good. While we shouldn't get overexcited and overhype him, we shouldn't insinuate that neither he nor the rest of the DBs can play either.

It looks like in addition to Marius.... Corey Earls, Demaryius Thomas, Shane Bowen, Jamal Evans, and Sedric Griffin are all pushing to not spend this year as a redshirt. Osahon Tongo definitely would have not redshirted if not for the injury. That would have been 7 true freshman with PT..but we will have 6 it appears.

Trevor Bray could end up playing out of necessity at the position. There also could be one or two special teams players from the group.

The fact that Jahi WD is a starter should not be a surprise to anyone who followed spring practice. There never was any doubt about his coverage ability, but he was a little slow in picking up the defensive schemes. But at the end of practice he was coming on fast. A late injury shadowed things, but he has recovered well. According to an on-the-scene report, he is now at 190 lbs and looking GREAT.
