Early jitters and missed blocks cost the first string offense some points. Once the settled in after the first TD, things looked great. Second string ran the TO really well. Once Jaybo bulks up, he will be hard to stop for less than 4.

Def: A
We played pretty vanilla. Our first string D won the 6 on 4 blocking scheme Jax St was running. The second string D held up pretty well to considering we still were only rushing 4. I was a little concerned about the runs we were giving up to the outside. Bonus points for the two picks put them back in the A range.

Kickoff Coverage: F
The kicking just wasn't there. The ball wasn't in the air very long and wasn't very deep. The kicking made it impossible to judge the actual coverage, although #30 made a great play to keep his eye on the ball carrier while sliding on his back. Great tackle.

Kickoff Return: D
The up front guys just weren't able to handle the ball. I don't think we practiced shanked kicks.

Punting: A
The ball was about 2 feet from being a perfect punt.

Punt Return: A
But this was really hard to judge since their punter was horrific. Great job by our return man catching the ball in traffic. Those punts were terrible.

Dance Team: A+

Top things to work in in no order:

- speical teams
- short yardage offense
- passing accuracy (could be 1st game jitters)
- no chop blocks (15 yd penalties twice)
- getting the LB corps healed up again

To be honest, I felt like the offensive jitters and the errors picked up as the game went along, and not necessarily just because 1st team guys were coming out. We didn't move terribly well on the first drive, but I didn't think it was jitters as much as it was just a stalled drive. Most of the poor blocking and errors came as the game progressed.

I hated their punting formation. It looked like their punter was afraid he was going to stick his cleats right up the rear end of one of the three blockers building a wall in front of him. The wall either needs to move up or he needs to take a step or two back.

My thoughts:

The good:

1) First drive: I believe there were two dropped passes that were pretty good throws by Nesbitt. The first one hit Roddy in the hands. I thought passing accuracy was pretty good.
2) Lucas Cox: Count me as one of the people who was not ecstatic at starting what is essentially a traditional FB in the A back position. But I have to say, he has good hands, decent speed and doesn't go down easily. Plus, on those plays where Roddy gets the pitch, he is going to make some savage downfield blocks. I like the rotation of Roddy, Cox, and Smith. Hopefully Peebles can contribute as well. Does anyone know why he was getting laid into.
3) Dwyer: When the O-line opened a hole for him, he was off to the races. He also had a nice run on a 3rd and 3 where he was met at the line and still got the 1st.
4) Nesbitt: Had a great 1st down run, looked good on the reads and looked good passing the ball.
5) Jaybo Shaw: For a freshman I thought he looked great. On his 40+ yard run it looked like he made at least 4 defenders miss. He is small though and took some hard hits from JSU.
6) Defense: It looked really nice to see a team dump off a short pass, and us stop them for little or no gain. The pass rush wasn't great but, they were blocking 6 and we were sending 4 :). Linebacker play looked to be solid. The entire unit (LB and DL) were spread out very wide. I'm afraid of what of a good strong runner might be able to do inside.
7) The Rest: Roddy? Disgusting. I think Morgan Burnett will get 12 interceptions this year.

The bad:

1) Chop blocks: 2 for 30 yards. That's a drive killing penalty, and something I hope we fix for ACC play
2) Kicking game: I didn't think kickoff coverage was too bad (one kick was caught close to the 2, near the sidelines). We do need to work on Field Goals. How long was that 2nd attempt?

Dance Team: A+

Dance team rocked! there was one time where i think a girl in the back row proved that gravity still works by slightly falling out of the bottom of her halter-top. they were wearing the full dresses when they came back in the third quarter - i wonder if that was to avoid additional "equipment failure"

btw, i was the guy standing up and screaming a lot in section 103, row 12, including yelling positive encouragement and compliments to the Gold Dancin' Jackets!

just waned to give downfield blocking an A++. Bebe had one of the prettiest pancake blocks I have ever seen on dwyersfirst TD

PJ really commended Thomas for that pancake and told him that basically because he was working so hard to block for others, that he was going to get his soon enough. I think Bebe/ Bay-Bay is really going to hurt some people this year.

Buzz, I am about 4 rows in front of you...I was the one in the 93 jersey with the 2 year old girl in my arms most of the first half.

Excellent, someone to share the content of my Sippin Seat next time around!

thanks for letting me know! cute girl, btw!

i am actually glad that you are nearby. one of the guys that i take to the games frequently, has diabetes and sometimes doesnt eat enough before or during the games. last night, he was starting to lose it in the 4th, so we couldnt stay to the very end of the game. by the time we were at the bottom of Hemphill to get back to the car, we were about carrying him as he was barely able to stand upright.

everyone thinks that he is drunk, but he is just low on blood sugar. we literally had to carry him the last 100 yards (both of us) and force some cola into him and make him eat some food. its good to know that in case of emergency, we have a "doctor in the house"

Cheetah- B-They had a few hotties, but the talent was lacking overall. It was a C grade, but the blonde hottie with the Dwyer jersey on brought the grade up.

....they sell coke at the games....

........

yes, they do. if you ever get around someone that is going low on blood sugar, you will note that they are typically ornery, even hostile.

so the questions like "are you ok" are not answered truthfully (well, he thinks he's ok) and orders like "drink this" get met with hostile responses.

if you cant convince him, then you have to wait until he is past that phase. by that time, we were away from the stadium. also, dont they close concessions at the end of the 3rd?

Wife is an endocrinologist as well...so she will have diabetes covered...might want to get one of those frozen lemonades around halftime and let it melt...that is pretty good for a quick sugar rush. I do not think the stadium sells OJ, so that is what I would probably recommend.
