Guys

It appears that we are even dropping off a lot of the B list kids now from the GT board....and B list kids a good athletes.

All indications are we will take the first 6 that commit, then have to wait through the season to see if more can open up. Technically, only 4 more are truly open at this moment, but you never know who may not show up this fall.

Bottom line, we are in the difficult position of working to get commitments from particular A list kids...and wE WILL end up having to slow play or completely turn away kids that are big-time recruits (our A list) because of lack of space. All indications we are the team to beat for Claytor, Dwyer, Everson, Nesbitt, and Baker. Burnett, Little, McCray, and Peters all have us at the top of what they call an even race.

As is stated in the article, the only thing that will keep this from being a Top 10 class is the low number of scholarships given, which is somewhat illogical, but recruiting rankings in and of itself is guesswork anyway.

Exciting article. This is a bit depressing though:

"Gailey just seemed to go away from recruiting Georgia very hard at first," Kennedy said. "In the last few years, they have been fighting and losing against Temple for players in Pennsylvania and against Rice for players in Texas. Finally, they've decided to go after Georgia."

That is exciting....I hope that the highly rated recruits such as Everson, Little, Claytor, Nesbitt, and McCray (just to name a few) get the sense of "urgency" from this article and will step up and give their verbal b/c as the article suggests committ quickly b/c these scholarships are going FAST....Man
Hiveredtech - If you had hand pick from all the names in that article to give our remaining scholarships to who would you pick & why?

Question: If we only have 4-6 scholarships left. We have multiple offers out there to several players which exceeds our ability to sign all of them, so how do we delegate who can accept these offers? Or is it simply done on a 1st come 1st serve basis? Or will we start pulling offers from some of the players that we have previously offered in order to reserve these remaining scholarships for our #1 recruits at each remaining position need? Any thoughts?

I beliveve all the recruits out ther are told...

We only have a certain amount of space available, and if you wait too long to commit, we might not have room for you. So, every recruit understands there's a chance they might not have a spot if they wait too long to commit.

It's a good problem to have as GT, to have to turn away good players because we already have enough good players.

Re: I beliveve all the recruits out ther are told...

Yes I agree it's a great situation to be in.Thanks for the information. I understand that each recruit knows that there is a time table to factor in to the offer & there's a limited amount of space, however what I was wondering was....If we would pull offers from some of the players that are further on our priority list b/c of limited spots or if it would stay open and force a sense of urgency.... I mean in some ways I would like to see the remaining spots go to the highest caliber prospects rather than just the next 4-6 to give us verbals b/c once we will fill up then I think the attention will disappear from the remaining prospects b/c there's nothing left for them....I understand that this must be a very difficult situation to be in prior to the season starting in some aspects but what a GREAT problem to have.....Not saying that we don't miss out on someone every year or that this year is unique EXCEPT for the limited number of scholarships and ALL THE NATIONAL attention we are getting from the BLUE CHIPPERS.....I hope we sign the best of the best....GO JACKETS!!!!!!!!

Why dwell on the past...focus on the positive. That statement was a bit of exaggeration by Scott Kennedy...because we never lost anyone to Temple or Rice...and some bad advice to Gailey by Braine.

Notice he also said this was an unusual year where there were a lot of kids in GA that could make it academically at GT...and even a couple of those could struggle. But heck..so did I.

Guys , I sure you all understand the downside of all of these early verbals---it's a long time til Feb 07.We need to keep recruiting hard and also showing our verbals a LOT of love for the next 6 months.

that goes without saying. that is also probably part of the reason we will take two more than we actually have spots for right now.

everyone is in the same boat on this though. There are many schools that have more commitments than we do already.

Knox, for some reason I ALWAYS expect you to zero in on the NEGATIVE and, guess what, I am NEVER dissapointed.

Sorry, but when you read anything about getting beat out for recruits by Temple and Rice everything else seems rather insignificant. That's downright shameful.

2007 and 2008 will be interesting as the bulk of our players will have been very lowly regarded recruits.

knox

As I said, we NEVER lost any recruits to Temple or Rice. Scott was joking/exaggerating.

If you look at individual recuits over the past couple of years you can see how each will fit in and help. There are some great ones to build on.

A wise person learns from past history and make changes for continuous improvement....dwelling on the past and wondering what could have been is for losers.

Like hiveredtech said, we didn't lose anyone to Temple or Rice (that I can remember). We did lose a prospect from Texas to LA Lafayette a few years ago, though. Other than that, I don't remember losing any players to places like that.

I actually don't think it ever happened. Scott may have the details but I think it's more hyperbole.

Regardless of whether it's hyperbole or not the statement implies that our recruiting the past few years have been substandard.

It's not dwelling on the past considering those recruits will be our team in the next couple of years.

Ironic that you chose one of those "lowly regarding recruits" (to use your own words) for your signature. :laugher:

Well, the ones we lost to Temple and Rice certainly won't be here. Plus we all agree our recruiting is doing much better so I don't know what purpose is served by worrying about something that happened in the past.

You're very right about this! And, judging from your posts, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Jonathan Dwyer- What is the most recent story on GT and Dwyer. Teaser of a headline says that UGA may be back in the hunt after Dwyer visited Athens this past weekend??? Any truth or just trying to sell suspense & subscriptions???
Anyone able to read the article & provide some insight into & "for the rest of the story" (as Paul Harvey would say) Good Day!

He did an unofficial visit to UGA this past week and loved it. They are in his top five now it appears.

I still think we are the team to beat...we will know for sure in September sometime in my opinion.
