To line up a game pitting Clemson vs Alabama was a stroke of genius, much less being able to make it happen. Heck, this tussle will be every bit as big as the recently played Atlanta Bowl game, the Chick-fil-a, involving Clemson & Auburn. Hats off to the tremendous amount of foresight & fortitude to make this season opening tilt a reality.
It is looking like a Duke-Alabama matchup for '09, but that could change now that the Bowl staff has pulled together to get this 'national' attention getter lined up in such a short period of time. Right now, luckily, they're looking for an ACC & SEC matchup.

Jacksonville

had such a great success with the Florida St-Alabama gm in '07, sold out 85,000+, that they are seeking to do a 'neutral' site challenge each season. J'ville is not necessarily adamant about having the 1 time neutral bout on the opening weekend of the season. Any date will do for the NE Florida city.
This 'extra game' is even more important with the loss of the ACC Championship joust. South Florida is still looking for an opponent. GT lost an away match & could certainly fill in with a 'neutral' gm. Would Ga Tech-SFla be interesting enough???? Would J'ville consider an ACC team for their 'neutral' clash????

if Tech fans traveled well they would, but they didn't travel well to the ACC championship game last year.
