"People watch football because we’re entertained by seeing men flirt with danger in pursuit of a goal."

Violence and infliction of pain might be key parts of football's appeal, but I don't think it's true that danger is. I'd be totally happy with a football where no one ever got injured in a serious way. The possibility of injury doesn't really add to the drama.

You have other popular sports like golf or tennis where there is almost no danger.

"Safety is a woman’s priority. Men seek thrills and danger."

Guess I'm a woman then.

Eh, I think maybe what he's referring to manifests in things like monster hits. If a Tech defender lights someone up in the open field, there's the initial "GET H-OOOOHHH öööö!" and then a pause for a half a second to make sure the guy isn't dead before freaking further the öööö out. There is certainly that component, underlying everything that happens on the field there is the constant presence of genuine danger being faced for the sake of a game and our entertainment. I doubt if anyone consciously watches or loves football because of it, but if we knew that nobody could ever get hurt, football would not be as interesting, fun, or easy to take seriously, as we do.

“Yesterday’s Atlanta-Tampa Bay game was ruined when referee Jerome Boger flagged a Falcons defensive lineman for a routine sack of Tom Brady. The roughing-the-passer penalty cost Atlanta any chance of a comeback.”

Sounds familiar. Our game very nearly went south after a similar call.

Yeah, I’m not sure why gender surgery is the chosen counter point of violence in football.

Because people loving using sports as a platform to air their political and societal grievances.

I'm sure if people tried hard enough they could find some sort of political forum on the Internet where they can call each other maggots and transgender bitches and discuss why it's bad that kids are being changed from boys to girls and vice versa. But why do that when you can do it in a football forum?

Whitlock was an OL for Ball State. He’s opining on rule changes, at least in part. as a former player.
Well that article, and his obsession with establishing that there is an upper rung of men called Alphas and that he is among them, are ööööing amateur hour at best and otherwise just seems like a blog that maybe shouldn't have been published. There are valid points to be made in discussions like this, but nobody on this goddamn planet can help themselves but constantly trying to denigrate others and deepen whatever divide they are commenting on. He writes like a deeply insecure and immature douchebag, and any value his opinions may have had is voided by the way he presents them and the fact that he isn't actually trying to accomplish anything positive or helpful to anyone, he is just throwing another wordy tantrum. I do that too, but I don't go collecting a paycheck for it and nobody intelligent would ever take me seriously.

If you’re an alpha, you don’t care about politics or whatever the latest loser-made-up-thing on the news.
