for the candidates.
Neuheisel
+ A lot of 10 win seasons under his belt.
+ Probably the best scenario to keep Tenuta
+ Big name nationally; could be a hit with people who are not currently GT fans, sparking more interest in GT
+ Appears to be able to coach QBs
- Programs he led declined after a few years, have not yet 'recovered'. Why? Does he recruit poorly? Rumors of lax discipline would also explain such a dropoff...
- NCAA 'issues'
Crew opinion - potential home run given adult supervision. GTCrew will be pumped if he is chosen and Tenuta stays, ulcerous if Tenuta leaves. (note to self - check if ulcerous is a word)
Crew plan - hire Rick and keep Tenuta. Contract must have easy out clauses for GT and DRad must hexercise a lot of oversight and will need an itchy trigger finger. Keep Giff and hire the guy that went to Alabama back. Hire BOR as a 'swagger consultant' to guard against lax discipline and mellowness (Offense only).
Edsall
+ Decent record, steadily improving
+ Southern connections, should recruit well
+ Should be a hit with existing GT fans
+ Knows GT and academics
- Not overly exciting
- Don't we need Offense?
- Potential bidding war with Conn could make him expensive
- Conn could promote key members of Edsall's coaching team to prevent Edsall from bringing his top assistants with him
Crew opinion - probable safe and solid choice. Confident Edsall will keep the bowl streak alive, but have no reason to believe that we will have a much better staff than UGA.
Crew plan - hire Edsall only if he can bring his key assistants at least. GTCrew would be confident in GT being a top tier ACC team for years if pretty much the entire Conn staff comes. If not, expect some level of disfuntion until the new staff gets on the same page.
Muschamp
+ Fiery
+ MNC ring
+ Southern roots, should be able to recruit well
+ Could bring Auburn recruits with him?
+ Potential to hire on the cheap
- No HC experience
- Mediocre defenses IMHO considering the programs
- Don't we need Offense?
- Dawg roots could irk some fans
Crew Opinion - Rad is interviewing him in the top tier at least in part because it helps Muschamp. If not, he is being highly recommended by experts because on paper he is no comparison to the other two. Totally risky choice for Rad. IMHO, one other reason he is 'top tier'... By officially announcing that he is a top tier candidate, there is no chance the GT gets caught like some teams with egg on face after hiring a 'second tier' candidate.
Crew Plan - If everything else falls apart, hire him on the cheap and work hard to keep Tenuta and the other top current assistants.
If Crew was the AD, based on todays status.
Call Spurrier just to check. Offer Rick.
