GG gave his insight into why recruiting is going so much better this year. In addition to the obvious reasons of just doing a better job selling the kids on GT, GG said that we are getting more leeway on the academic side with making offers earlier. In contrast to what many have posted here and especially on the hive, he said that this years crop of GA high school players are not stastically better academically than previous years.

Well I'll be damned. Sounds good to me. I hope they stay in school.

He didn't say we were necesarily allowing more marginal athletes but they we were being less conservative about allowing our coaches to extend offers earlier. For example, allowing us to offer a kid with good grades w/o test scores (this is my example not his but i believe it is what he is talking about).

FWIW I have heard (2nd hand so take it for what it's worth) that DRad has helped get some of these change implemented.

was there ever any doubt? Now, what is very true is that D Braine and C Gailey had their hands tied around their backs because of "our little problem", which Braine had no one to blame.

Believe what you will, but there was no way that any AD on the rise would have been interested in us without being able to compete. However, I am not saying that every factory AD candidate could have done nearly as much as DR has done in his short tenure. He is a winner.

As '67 has alluded though, it's one thing to get in Tech and another to get out with paper. (or at least stay for a good while)
