as reprted in today's AJC. But according to NCAA rules, the move could not be effective until 2011.

That wont be happening anytime soon. We played a horrible FBS team (Colorado State) and got our asses handed to us for a while.

We managed to pull a comeback, but it wasn't pretty (based on the box score/stats).

There aren't very many people here at GSU who support the move. Those of us who DON'T (actual football fans) realize we couldn't compete. After all, look what happened to Marshall.

But hey, people can dream. If it happens in <10 years, Ill be surprised. Hopefully by then I'll be a rich alum who can help then with funding - haha

Honestly, it would be very bad for Tech, but I see no reason that GSU couldn't be very competetive in D1A. South Ga puts out a lot of recruits and they'd start snagging a few here and there and be in very respectable mid major shape in just a few years.

Theres really no reason that a state with as much HS talent as we have only has two teams, but I'd certainly like to keep it that way... hell, I'd be fine if we dropped down to just having 1 :)

Notre Dame lost to Duke.

Every other sport at GSU is Div 1a, why shouldn't football do the same?

I was unaware that all the rest were.....

As long as Chris Hatcher comes to GT, they can do whatever they want with football.

That's because none of the other sports have two subdivisions like football has with I-A and I-AA.

Also, if they made the move they'd have to go independent or find a new conference. It's not happening any time soon.

The study will take 3 to 6 months to complete once they start it. If they decide to move up then they will have a minimum of 4 years get prepared for the move. Can they get into the SunBelt conference?

IMO, I think they would do well if they moved up, but I don’t see it happening right now. The money just isn’t there, especially since the president said they couldn’t increase student fees.

dammit, every time someone says "GSU" I automatically think Georgia State.

GSU= Georgia State
Georgia Southern= Georgia Southern

How about we just go back to GSC, and then there will be no confusion. If we're talking about football, you shouldn't be confused (I know Georgia State is starting a team, but still).

GSU>Georgia State.

No matter how you look at it.

Gotta disagree with you there, have you seen the State girls booty size? Clearly in that case State is much > than GSU.

I'll never forget seeing a bunch of State girls tear through the buffet at Wingnuts and litterally forming a circle around it to hold others back.

Im not at liberty to discuss attributes of females due to my long term relationship :hsugh:

Marshall is not a good indicator of GSU's potential in D1A.

It is more like that of Troy and UCF.

I kinda hope they don't but feel that GSU would have a lot of potential in D1A.

I am pretty sure Georgia has the highest population per D1A program of any state south of Virginia. It is the fourth best recruiting ground easily, only two schools in the state, and one of them won't admit half of the recruits. There also aren't any other big 1AA programs.

That's why GSU is the monster of 1AA, and if they were in 1A, they'd get more talent.
