I forget how they name the divisions these days but heard on the news tonight where georgia southern was to form a com. on stepping up to (the old D-1)
 
I doubt that this will happen, but if they're forming a committee they're at least more serious about it than they have been in the past. I remember the idea being mentioned several times before, but nothing ever came of it.

They certainly have a large enough student body to make the move, but funding will be a serious issue in order to compete at the next level. They will need to make significant improvements in the way of stadium and other football facilities to compete with the likes of Troy, USF, etc.
 
That wont be happening anytime soon. We played a horrible FBS team (Colorado State) and got our asses handed to us for a while.

We managed to pull a comeback, but it wasn't pretty (based on the box score/stats).

There aren't very many people here at GSU who support the move. Those of us who DON'T (actual football fans) realize we couldn't compete. After all, look what happened to Marshall.

But hey, people can dream. If it happens in <10 years, Ill be surprised. Hopefully by then I'll be a rich alum who can help then with funding - haha
