Let's back it up by pummeling BC!

"5. Georgia Tech (2-0)
W, Samford 69-14
next game: Boston College
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … this could be the nation’s most confident team. When you have great line play, you can beat just about anyone, and right now, outside of Oklahoma and LSU, no one is playing better on both sides of the line. However …
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because ...
beating Notre Dame and Samford is nothing to get too excited about. This really is that good a team, but we’ll know more in a big hurry with a showdown against Boston College this week and three road trips in four week."

We better hope our pass rush/blitzkrieg is able to get to BC's quarterback. If he has time to throw... yikes. Our corners got beat a couple times vs ND - we just sort of forgot about it since the Irish qb couldn't make the throw. We won't get off so easily against BC.

Likewise, this could easily be our running game's most difficult test of the season.

My biggest concern for this game is if BC hits a couple of longballs early and we find ourselves down 14-0. I like our offense and everything but I'm not quite confident that we can score quickly. And conversely, I won't consider anything less than an insurmountable lead safe against Ryan and with their D I don't know how we build a lead big enough to be safe.

This is going to be four quarters of hell.

I'm curious why some posters are so scared of the BC defense. I realize that they have performed well to this point in the season, but I haven't seen anything to lead me to believe they are anywhere close to us or VT. I'm not saying we'll blow them out, but it's certainly not their defense that I'm more worried about.

CFN has got it just about right . . .

. . . actually I would place us third right now. USC is unproven. LSU and Oklahoma might be better than us right now but I would like our chances with either one.

This is just a shapshot in time and may not prove out over the long haul, but if you were grading on production and not potential, I think it is an honest and objective view of reality at the moment.

Go Jackets!

I can't see us any higher than 15th until we see what our passing game looks like vs a good defense. Running game too, for that matter. We are just like Clemson of 06 - we look real good on paper and we beat up newbs well with the run game, but our passing game is totally unproven.

USC is unproven but they're 10-deep on their talent list. They'll win most, if not all, of their games simply due to depth and a lack of opponents.

Our passing game is still a relatively unknown...it could be great, good or average. I seriously doubt that it will be poor or bad.

I'm more concerned with our cornerbacks. If they perform good or at least average...lookout, because here we come.

Their front 7 is strong (I don't know if they're deep but the starters are solid). Through 2 games against better competition, they're giving up 1.2 yds/carry. GT is giving up 1.1 yds/carry.

I'm quite content with a #15 AP ranking at this point. Teams like LSU (whipping VT), Oklahoma (Miami), Cal (Tennessee), Texas (came on to take care of TCU), USC (based on their recent history) all have --at least early on-- taken care of business against formidable (supposedly tough anyway) opponents.

Almost any other year you could same the same about GT (but it's pretty much a concensus that ND ain't ND this year --just the fact that the media darlings weren't in the top 25 pre-season polls, let alone the top 10-- the cat was out of the bag about them prior to GT dismantling them in South Bend).

I expect Saturday night's game with BC to be a tough one --but I do expect GT to prevail. Then GT must take care of business @ UVA, which is something no Tech team has accomplished since 1990, going 0-7 in that stretch despite having better talent in some of those years.

If GT faces Clemson at 4-0 (with all probability also a 4-0 team at that point) then the winner of that game should certainly catapult into the top 10 --and continue to climb until someone comes along to knock them off.

There is potentially a lot that this year's GT team can accomplish in 2007, but it all starts with the next game on the schedule --BC.

honestly, everything outside of the top three of USC, LSU, and OU is a total crapshoot. nobody except these three have shown anything honestly.

everyone from 6 and up have looked weak at some point or another. PSU is way overrated... i dont know if they even watched the game, but PSU sucked it up and looked awful. Wisconsin at #6? please.... UNLV would be lucky to be in the top 70. WVU and UL are jokes... anyone could score on them (maybe even ND). part of me says, "GT IN THE TOP 5!?!?!? WHHHHAAAAT?" but then the other part says, "they have looked better than everyone else behind them."

i agree with the sentiments above, though... its hard to tell until GT has to pass the ball.
