GT Def Film Review vs. UVA

Mediocre performance for the defense. I thought the game of letting Perkins get in a rhythm wasn't the best either. Poor tackling and poor eye discipline. I thought the ILB position was nonexistent other than the safety by Brant. If tackling doesn't improve, UGA game won't be close. DL played well particularly Adams. We need more people to step up with the extra attention ASA is getting. DBs were ok, but needs to finish tackles and take better angles.

I do like the new nastiness and bounce we are playing with . Sorry, but class and high character on the field doesn't win. We are not dirty but can definitely see a new confidence/attitude in our guys this year which is absolute necessary to be a good defense. Enjoy!
 
I've been thinking we were to nice for awhile now. It's great that we recruit great young men with good character but we need to be angry and mean for a few hours on Saturdays. I hate seeing our guys helping the other team up. Screw em, let them get up on their own. They are the enemy until the clock hits zero.
 
My eyes saw Brandon Adams playing extremely hard for such a big DT. Dude covered some ground.

Brant Mitchell was awful. On goal line defense he was playing four yards off the LOS when UVA only needed a 1/2 yard. I just don’t understand it.
 
After the safety and return, I really thought we were gonna step on their necks, especially with a backup QB coming in.

Same as last year after we got a TD and a pick 6 to open the second half (or something like that). Say this for UVA - they don't give up and they don't quit. They keep on playing, and keep on dancing on the sidelines. Seems like a decent culture that Bronco's instilling up there.

That’s been the case a few times this season on the goalline.

Brant has been ok as of late but Curry appears to have know clue at times in the last few games especially. It’s lot of guessing going on or it appears that way
 
One possible benefit is that UGa is the only team on our schedule this year that NW coached against last year. So he already knows the players and coaches and has already game-planned against them. Its not a huge + but its something. And when it comes to hate week, I'll take every edge we can come up with.

And, to @ibeeballin, thanks for putting these together this year. I find that I am now noticing things during the game that you pointed out. Much obliged. :cheers:
 
Really some poor fundamentals by LBs and our CBs did not tackle well. Our DL also lost the battle in the trenches on a lot of snaps. It was like a flashback to the Ted Roof era seeing our entire DL pushed three yards downfield. They were definitely more excited to play us than we were them.

Hey I haven't had a chance to watch through this yet, but what was your impression regarding the 2nd half play? 2 punts and 1 FT in 3 normal possessions, and then the typical prevent FG given up at the end of regulation. Seems like the defense played well in the second half.

Ehh... kinda. Some help from penalties and bad coaching. If the play improve at marginal at best and that was enough
