My love of GT spans more than sixty years. My grand-mother(who raised me) ran a boarding house for GT students on Fifth Street where the freeway is now. On of the young men was a student manager for the football team and gave me tickets for every home game. I've done a lot of things to see GT football games. Purchased tickets when I could afford them, ushered as a Boy Scout, yes and even picked up Coke bottles. If I remember correctly I saw Clint Castleberry play there one Friday night for Boys HS. I loved going over and playing in the armory. Seeing the ships and that BIG deck gun!
BTW, does anyone remember the really old unforms from the 30's and early 40's? Black leather helmets mustard color/old gold jerseys and kinda' yellow pants. One of my heros was Johnny Bosch!
About three years ago(before my stroke) My wife and I flew Seattle to Atlanta for HC.

I love GT! If were a ND partisan I'd be a subway alumni, but labels don't matter.

GT will become competative again I sure. The GT tradition is too grand to be anything but. We have a coach so lets support him and the team.

I hope the ramblings of an old man haven't bored you. Just be patient and if CG isn't the answer then the money men will act! I really enjoy you all!

welcome! this board is rough. you need a thick skin. but then all Tech fans need thick skins these days.

post often

Welcome aboard sir...
I'm not a grad either but a huge fan... Dad's an alum and I was born 2 days before the epic 7-6 victory over the Crimson Tide in '62...
If you read this board then you'll see that all are welcome... optomists and pessimists alike are fans... occasionally we'll 'ID' a loser from Athens posing as a fan but we root 'em out pretty quick...
As far as remembering the old uniform... I've got a 'throwback' jersey with Castleberry's #19 it's beautiful and only a handful of us that get to attend games on Saturdays have 'em....
Again Welcome aboard I'm sure the next 6 months are going to be a rollercoaster... so hold on to your coffee I've a feelin' it's gonna be a helluva ride...

To Hell With Georgia!!!

Welcome! I'm sure you remember some of the same thing that I do I remember Dodd's first days, the look of the old Grant field in the early 40's. Yes we will be great again.

Good to see you on board. TECH's got a lot more supporters out there than show up for our squabbles here. 'Preciate your input.

JacketFan, you have my respect. I am not an alumnus, but have been a fan since the mid 40's.

The thick skin remark gives me a chuckle. JacketFan, and the other old-timers around here will understand this next remark.

You can't be old and be a chicken. Most any old person is thick skinned. It comes with territory.

Being a Jacket fan was passed down to me from both my grandfathers and my father. I always loved going to Grant Field when I was a kid and eating at the Varsity. Those are some of the best memories I have of my childhood.
For the longest time I had no idea that the song was "Glory Glory to 'ol Georgia" I always thought it was "To Hell, To Hell with 'ol Georgia, Georgia-go-to-Hell", just the way Grandad taught me when I was about 4.

Great post.

welcome sir! i didn't go to tech either but i have been a RABID fan since birth. dad wouldn't have had it any other way! casbah, i remember when dad got home from the 7-6 game. i was eleven and it is still the only time i EVER saw him drunk!!! and i mean....DUURRUUNNCCKKK!!!!!!

Nor am I an alum either sir. I appreciate your words, words of wisdom. By the grace of the Almighty my Dad took me to a GT game in 61. Gold blood ever since. Old Foggy might appreciate this but I was born in a west Texas town (you get on I20 in ATL and when you get to Dallas you are halway there) and just outside of the town I was born in there was an oil field with a big sign stating "This Oil Field Property of the Georgia Institute of Technology". So I suppose it was preordained that I would be blessed to follow the rightous colors of White & Gold. Thank you Lord.

JackdetFan: Welcome, and thanks so much for a great message. You speak wisdom, my friend:

"GT will become competative again I sure. The GT tradition is too grand to be anything but. We have a coach so lets support him and the team.

Ready for your ramblings anytime....and yes, those beautiful old pants. I think they were about the color that every sports store sold back then....My Dad got me a pair of those pants and from then (1946) on I have been a fan for Tech.

WELCOME!! I'm a longtime Jacketfan myself and I too didn't attend GT. It was a family thing for me and I got hooked selling cokes at GT football and basketball games. Just something about Grant Field/BDS on a Saturday!!

Welcome to you sir!! I agree WHOLEheartedly. Chan Gailey is our coach right now so let's support him!! He's all we've got and we've got to support our coaches AND our players. Relatively speaking, there aren't ALOT of us "Jacketfans" out there. We need to ALL yell loud and PROUD for our boys!!!

Please post often fellow "Jacketfan"!

Welcome aboard from another "sidewalk" Jacket fan since the mid-50's. Both dad and grandad are alumni. Me? I'm a product of the 60's.
