GT Football: #FSUvsGT Coach Key Weekly Press Conference

i haven't finished listening yet but he said Sims has an ankle sprain and is "day to day"

"It was a collective effort to be bad. And it was. It was bad. And it's not going to happen [again]. And that's why we got back to work on Friday."

Appreciate the honesty throughout the press conference. About as good of a press conference as you can have after a bad game. Needs to translate into good play on Saturday.

I've read completely unsubstantiated rumors elsewhere (actually, just here lol) that Sims isn't playing again for GT.
I hear that he will absolutely play at GT again.

There, now you have that unsubstantiated rumor.

It wouldn't help his Portal opportunities to Zach Gibson the season after a sprained ankle so I think your rumor is probably correct.

My hot take:

Sims: I thought Coach was being intentionally elusive when saying Sims was day-to-day prior to Virginia. I think this is very much the truth now. Unfortunately, Sims without his legs 100% makes him very one dimensional. When that happens we have to build a game plan around better ball throwers.

Gibson: Gibson will be given the ball to open FSU. He will be given the opportunity to redeem himself. I would imagine he gets at least two drives to do so. He will have to master the short pass to set up the run, and the run to set up the the longer pass. I hope this week wide receivers work on timing with a new QB set (Sims under throws, Gibson overthrows).

Pyron: Welcome to the show. You are either going to be sent in to show some different looks or you will have to put the team on your back and save the day. Either way prepare to cinch down that chin strap.

Phommachanh: I was hopeful as a dual threat he would be able to step in immediately and build off the existing playbook. After taking a look at his Clemson spring game highlights ('21) there is a lot to be desired. He also tore his Achilles in that scrimmage - hard road to come back fully from.

There have been advances in medical techniques since the late 70's, but my dad snapped his Achilles when he was about 35 and coached my little league team. He never really recovered true to form.

Soroka hasn't made it back all the way either for the Braves after snapping his Achilles.
And while Nique was still good after he tore his, he wasn't the same Nique, either. Fewer human highlight reel dunks, IIRC.

Dion Glover had the same issue, iirc. Anyone who saw him at in HS saw a high flying acrobat. He was slamming like 'Nique as a freshman in HS. One of the best alley oops I ever saw was at Etowah HS when Travis Zachery (former Clemson RB) lofted an alley oop from half court that Glover misjudged, going full speed, grabbed behind it with his opposite hand and slammed it through.

He was never that at GT after his injury.

I also got the story of some administrator walking in on him and some girl in the bathroom and Dion turning and saying, I ain't finished yet.
His Achilles must have been ok that day

That was HS at Marietta. Transferred to Cedar Grove.
