From the Oklahoma Athletic site, Bob Stoops is entering rarified air this weekend as he ends the career of Ty Willingham.

If he wins, OU will have four "100 win coaches." I was proud to see GT on the list of four programs with three coaches. I have high hopes that PJ takes a huge bite out of his total this year to put himself on that list one day.

100-Win Coaches
Oklahoma currently has three head coaches with more than 100 wins in its history: Barry Switzer (157 wins), Bud Wilkinson (145) and Bennie Owen (122). At the start of the 2008 season, head coach Bob Stoops has an overall record of 97-22. With three wins, Coach Stoops will be the fourth Sooner head coach to reach the 100-win mark. No other program has had four head coaches with more than 100 wins each.

I predict that Tech will have four by 2020 at the latest.

Very nice post. Now I have one more fact about Georgia Tech to rub in the co-workers faces!

When you break it down, that list is a perfect microcosm of Tech's football history. We have three coaches on that list, and they coached one after another consecutively from 1904-1966. 62 years of quality coaching.

We've had 8 full-time coaches in the last 40 years, and haven't had someone come close to even coaching 100 games, let alone winning 100. Those other schools have Carrol, Stoops, Fulmer, Carr, and Tressell who have recently won 100 or are well on their way.

Notice how Notre Dame doesn't have one either. They're in the same boat with us.

That said, I've got a good feeling about Coach Johnson.

You beat me to it. Agree.

As far as Notre Dame, can't remember the specifics, but they might not let any coach get to 100 wins because they wanted Knute Rockne to be their all time winningest coach. There weren't specifics about why Lou Holtz left Notre Dame and many believe he was asked to leave when he was so that he wouldn't overtake Rockne's record.

Well, I don't think they'll have that problem with fat Weis.:laugher:

I wonder if Weiss would consider Fridge for OC.

Think about it. All that weight on one sideline...

I can almost already hear the jokes about a... level playing field.
