Being reported on the hive that in some way or another, Chan may have "asked" 2 of our QB's to consider leaving the program. Anyone have any details on this? It seems to be a no-no discussion on the hive, unless you want to pay for it of course.

from what i understand people are makin more out of it then there is...at the end of the season they evaluate everything and talk with players these 2 know the PT wont be there...if they want to stay or transfer its on them...CCG isnt going to force them out

There's nothing on the premium site. Evidently one person posted that two guys were asked to transfer. Nothing to confirm, nor is there any corroboration anywhere. I doubt Chan asked anyone to transfer but as demjackets said, probably just told them they aren't going to see any PT.

Latest word is this all started with someone on buzzoff so no telling what the truth is.

That's what I thought!

Chan would never pull a scholly unless he was a problem to the team. He in my opinion has told whomever that their playing time is not there and he is giving them an out to go to another school.

One might leave because hes a solid player so he could play somewhere...the other might just give up football who knows...CG didnt force them to make the decision though!

Thanks for the clarification. Should have known it wasn't as dramatic as it was being made out to seem...

From a scholarship number perspective....there is no point in forcing anyone out. We are at 79 for fall even with Durant Brooks...and odds are there will be mroe attrition anyway. To top it off...we get the full 25 next year even without attrition...so nothing to gain there either.

This time of year...every year...the HC will give "the talk" to certain players prior to spring practice. These are players that they feel like are not giving it there all out effort/playing up to their potential...or it could be a situation where the coach has a sincere discussion that we have "x" number of players at your spot and we cannot give reps to every body in a 2 hour practice...you have to show us more.

No one was pushed out but seems we might have one that has figured he might need to leave to get some PT...he would still have his scholly if he stayed but he feels he needs to move on to play

I am not sure of the source but I think with three qb next year somebody is going to another school or another position.Nesbitt and Threet are first class. They could help out next year.

This rumor is so illogical. First, Garner and Manley don't need a talk with the coach to read writing on the wall. And B, when you have (2) juniors, a sophomore, and (2) freshmen at the quarterback position, it isn't a glut. It is (finally) depth at the position. If Chan did anything besides telling those two that the position was up for grabs, but their reps would be down as he looked at 5 players, one of which who had the inside track (Bennett) and two that had to learn the system (the freshmen), he made a mistake.

I have a hard time seeing Manley getting much playing time at QB. Seems like this spring we should find a way for him to contribute - DB, RB, WR, holder, punt protector, etc.

Ingram and Garner should be given a chance to compete for the job, but I predict they will end up 3rd and 4th string. Of the two, Garner would be the most likely transfer to give himself the chance to start somewhere. Ingram would be more likely to try WR if he wants playing time.

I see Nesbitt and Threet competing for 1st or 2nd string QB with TB. The newcomer that finishes behind the other will have the option of a position change or a redshirt.

All in all, several good options for a starter and backup and nice depth at the position.

I suspect that if Nesbitt does not lay a clear claim to the #1 or #2 QB spot fairly quickly in the Fall he will be looked at for other positions where he can contribute immediately. That would leave 4 real contenders for the top 3 QB spots which makes sense. I think Manley will make most of his contributions off the field of play as a psuedo graduate assistant. I don't see Garner or Ingram making signifcant contributions at positions other than QB.

My guess is that if anything Chan told Manley the odds of him playing are slim and that for Garner he wouldn't promise the backup spot at least.
