I was just reviewing our commit list. Half (9) of our current commits are 3 stars or better. Just seems like that is a pretty good percentage for a GT recruiting class. I don't know what our history is but it sure doesn't sound as awful as some have stated. Especially if Kenny announces Tech on Sunday.

Just a thought.

Another thought. Check out our main competition: Virginia, Maryland, NC St, NCar & FSU. See how many 3stars/better they have. Then check Georgia & Auburn. That's the killer. Our competition is pulling away from us. The curve killer, so to speak.

I guess that is where I have a different opinion.

First of all, UGA, Auburn & FSU have been out recruiting us for years yet we've still been able to put together teams that can at least compete if not beat them. We are not a top tier team at this time and to think that we are going to get top tier recruiting classes (especially with our academic requirements) isn't being realistic. Just my opinion.

Second, I am still a firm believer that what seperates the good teams from the great teams is coaching. If you can put together a class of good (with a few great) players and give them to a great coach, then you will likely see great results. That is basically what Tech requires of a head coach. He has to be able to take these good players and put them in a position to suceed.

I think we have a good group of players (with a few great ones) that have committed to being with Tech. Time will tell if we have the great coach we need to turn these players into great players but to say that they aren't ACC championship caliber is inaccurate. Would you have considered the past Maryland recruiting class ACC championship caliber? Of course not but the coaching put them in a position to win. Many a good coach has come through Tech and I haven't seen any in recent memory be able to land many big fish before signing day.

Oh, OK, if u want to switch to 'coaching up' head coaches here goes:
1)Friedgen-Best coach up HC in the business. Took Md to 10-2,11-3 seasons. Recruiting very well now. Demolished Tenn in Peach Bowl. Followed closely by:
2)Groh-Took youngest team in league to 2nd in ACC. Finished 9-5 & demolished WVa in Continental. Played 15 Frosh. 2 outstanding recruiting yrs in a row. Followed closely by:
3)Grobe-Took WF talent to 2 straight winning seasons. Demolished Oregon in Seattle. Recruiting as well as GT now. Followed closely by:
4)Amato-Took NC St to 1st ever 10,11 win season & finished 11-3. Recruiting very well now. Demolished Notre Dame in Gator.
5)Richt-In 2nd season took Ga to SEC crown. 2 OUTSTANDING recruiting yrs in a row. Finished 12-1. Beat FSU in Sugar.

Again the competition is pulling away from us. But I do completely understand what u are hoping for as I am praying for the same 'coach up' abilities to occur in Gailey.

I don't understand how people can say that we are trailing UVA and NC State in the HC department.

What is this based on? The fact that they *lost* to CG? And they *obviously* had more talent, as their players (particularly UVA) are peppered on the All ACC teams, as opposed to GT.

Amato (who was ranked in the Top 10 when GT beat them on the road, for those of you with short memories) is 1-2 against GT, 0-1 against CG. Groh is 1-1 against GT, 0-1 aganist CG.

If we want to say that Grobe has a better staff, since they beat us, then using the same logic, you can't just arbitrarily say Groh and Amato are above this staff.

Groh and Amato are currently recruiting classes that are ranked higher than GT's, that's for certain.

But there is scant evidence to say their staffs/coaching ability is superior - at least based by on the field performances.

Tiar,B-based on the 'fact' that they had much better seasons overall & in the ACC than GT did. They also destroyed their 'name' Bowl opponent finishing the yr on an up beat note. As u said, they are outrecruiting the heck out of GT right now. Is that enough?
Gailey ought to be able to be a killer college HC. It just hasn't happened yet. Will it happen soon? Heck if I know.
