Today I went to play some racketball and some lady walked by with a GT gym bag. I congratulated her for having it but she got all red faced and told me she gave it to her son for Christmas but he refused to be seen with it
When was the last time someone saw a grade school or Hi-school kid wearing anything with GT on it

My daughter proudly wore her GT visor to hat day at school this year - without being coaxed by dad to do it. She is probably one of the prettiest, smartest girls in the school (no kidding - not just parental pride). Gonna be hard for a Dawg to date her. She expects better.

Over the weekend, I noticed a couple of guys in my neighborhood sporting Tech garb. I went out for a run yesterday about an hour prior to tip-off of the BC game and saw a guy in his driveway with a blue pullover with gold TECH across the front. I stopped for a moment and said something about the BC game and he was getting geared up to watch it.

I'm used to seeing what seems like every other truck in the neighborhood with a UGA license plate attached, and I know a few of those guys didn't even go to UGA, though a few did. So, it's nice to see some Tech folks up my way in Cumming as well.

Of course when someone comes to my house and happens to see my UGA diploma hanging in my office I have to explain myself as a lifelong Tech fan who didn't get swayed by four years in Athens.

Down here in the MIA there aren't a many tech fans, but I have spotted the occasional "GT DAD/MON" tag, I proudlly wear GT gear every change I get (the street racing crowd mistakens it for ricer gear sometimes) especially this year with a 14-10 GT-Miami scoreline, I even made the picture of me in the Orange Bowl (that I posted here just hours after the game) under the scoreboard showing the final score my christmas card, my cane friends are fuming but they'll have to wait a year to get back at me.

I live just south of Grant Park in Atlanta. Anyone familiar with this area will know that it isn't exactly the nicest in the world. Still considered "transitional"...brand new homes next door to run down ones. Anyways, there is this kid (5th grade maybe?) that lives down the street. Nicest kid in the world, but his family doesnt have much. I had an extra ticket to a bball game a few weeks back, so decided I would invite him. He knew I loved GT, and he had mentioned before that he liked them a lot, but I could never tell if he was serious or just making conversation. Anyways, he comes over at gametime wearing his GT shirt, which I had never seen before. He had the best time in the world at the game. Was so excited the entire time. We spoke a little bit about how it was that he came to like GT. He couldnt really place when he started liking them, but he said that he, and many of his friends at school, all loved GT and hated UGA. Not sure if maybe GT does some kind of outreach program with his school, but we have fans out there. He actually popped back up the next day after the game wearing a GT jacket...said he found it in his house. All of his clothes are a bit large, and a bit worn down, so I am thinking they must come from thrift stores. Nothing wrong with that, but I am thinking I am going to take him over to the bookstore one of these days to buy him a couple of new shirts to show off at school. He is always out front playing football, and says he wants to be quarterback someday. I am just starting the recruiting process early for him :)
If anyone has and "gently used" GT shirts or hats that they no longer wear and would consider donating to him, let me know and hopefully we can get him some more gear...

My oldest son (2nd grade) loves his CJ #21 jersey and wears it quite often to school!

My daughter also wears her CJ jersey to school. She told me she especially wears it the school day following a Tech loss. She says she gets a lot of respect for sticking with her team. She is known as a real Tech fan!
What have I done?... another Tech martyr! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pat.gif Very proud though!

Hey GTYJ12, let's make your Cane friends wait a few more years past next year eh? Make that Christmas card a yearly occurence for a while, that would be to have that opportunity!

Every Day!

I am a teacher/coach way up here in Dalton, GA (near Chattanooga) and I see kids wearing Tech gear everyday. We are outnumbered about 4 to 1 with UGA and UT fans (we are very close to the border) but we our 25% represents well. The kids that I have taught and know that are Tech fans are better and more loyal fans than those of the other schools. The Tech fans of the future are out there. I just hope they get something great (MNC) to happen for them soon in whatever sport!!

Re: Every Day!

Why is anyone responding to this jerk off, fish bait, BS accusation?

There are plenty of GT fans of every age. No need to justify a response to this horses butt.

Well, we would like to have more football fans imo. If our football fanbase was of the ratio of our basketball fanbase, it would be a bigtime increase.
Our paid leaders of the football program don't do anything to help us living in their bunker complex.

Re: Every Day!

techfowl, IMHO, you're way off base. He didn't gloat about the fact that there are more UGA fans than Tech fans, he made an observation...which happens to be right. We all wish the people wearing Tech stuff all over the state and elsewhere outnumbered those in UGA logos by 4:1, instead of the other way around, but it doesn't. And I'm willing to bet the ratio is even more out of whack among the kids. Kids pull for the team that gets all the pub. So, whether you want to blame the AJC, or the Tech admin, or the head coach, it's still a fact of life. We all wait for the day when that will be changed, but it isn't today. Chill out, man, chill out.

Re: Every Day!

Tech ,this was not to dis GT other than ask why we dont have a better publicity department
If the kids began pulling for another team it will be more difficult to change them in the future
You can get pist at me for asking but you should be more worried about the PR coming from GT

Re: Every Day!

i agree, i am not sure why you were attacked

Re: Every Day!

goldar, I think it's the case of not liking the message, so you shoot the messenger.

Re: Every Day!

Don’t listen to bitter Techfowl, he’s got such an inferiority complex that anything that could remotely be interpreted as negative is taken that way by him. I remember the first week I was here he accused me of being a Dawg and wanted me banned simply for requesting an old thread about “potential coaching candidates“. This guy is overly sensitive and insecure to the point that he can’t take a little dose of reality and as a result of this he is quick to want to silent any dissent, bet he was the kid who took his ball home if the game didn't go his way.

Re: Every Day!

easy now. TF is a good guy, and we're all a little on edge with how things have been going for Tech lately. Everyone calmn down, have a beer (or not if you're one of those angry drunks, in that case I recommend tylonol pm), and come back on the forum in the morning... God knows good news about something has got to come soon.
