Agree with you Ah so. I also think it is a big selling point to play freshman at recruiting time. Most highly recruited high school seniors want to play and not sit out a year. Could be a big selling point to a good prospect.

The 'caller of the week' came from 'Ace in Acworth'. The question was "what walk-ons have been impressive & may be put on 'ship or may see the field in the next coupla yrs". The question was slightly misunderstood, but some very good info came out of it anyway.
Will Heller has been on full scholarship since before Gailey got there. Gailey put Matt Etheridge & Beau Cleland on 'ship. "PJ Daniels is well on his way to earning a scholarship". The NCAA only allows 20 players not on scholarship to go to fall camp (I didn't know this & thought you could practice as many as U could get to come out). That means only 105 players can start 'camp' in the Aug camp. (when U hear of places like Nebraska having 100 walkons try out, it really means that the 100 try out to see who the 20 non-'ship players will be). This limits how many can be invited to try out in the program.
When 'Ace in Acworth' asked about the Freshmen, Coach went on a slight tangent & started talking about the true Fr playing. He added that "Pullen may play this week as well as McNair @ LB. Other Fr looking good are the 3 D linemen, TE George Cooper & our big ole linemen Zeb McHargue". Coach Gailey really, truly likes the Fr class that came in.
Pardon me while I go & listen on RW.com & hear what Ace sounded like.

Let us know how that Injector is Ace!

It's always cool to hear someone you know from the boards call in.

Good question by Ace. Gave us some info regarding walk-ons and freshman. PJ is on his way to earning 'ship. This is probably not a surprise to many, but good to hear coach say this.

Looks like because of injuries more freshman will see the field this week. Pullen was mention as well as McNair. This will bring up questions on the boards I'm sure. If they can help us win I say play them. Injuries are really hurting us here. Really pulling for those true freshman with their first real playing time.

My philosophy on playing freshmen. If they are big and strong enough to compete and have the talent, play them, even if it is a few plays per game.

Sometimes a player is redshirt for future use, the team happens to recruit a lot of players at that position with tremendous talent, and the redshirt does not get to play much anymore. Play them anytime it benefits the team, giving us the edge to win.

The only time I would hesitate to play a freshman is if his strength was not good enough and he was a candidate for injury because of it.
