GT\'s "one of the best Engineering schools in the world"

so says Senior Editor Phil Fritz of the Associated Press Prep Star. Quite an accolade from one of the foremost recruiting services. Can't locate the url for this article so I'll quote it direct from the Nov 20,2002 Prep Star report.
Wreck lands Tuminello. Ga Tech has secured a commitment from OL Kevin Tuminello of Youngstown, Ohio's Boardman HS. Kevin is 6'5, weighs 285 & has run the 40 in 5.1 secs. A top flight weight room operative who can bench press 385 lbs, squat 475 lbs & has a 28" verticle jump. The Tech faculty will love him as he has a 3.72 gpa, which is perfect for a scholarship player at 'one of the best Engineering schools in the world'. Tech now has 4 commitments.

Re: GT\'s "one of the best Engineering schools in the world"

GT, MIT, and CalTech are consistently the top 3 over the last 40-50 years. Only GT has the Div 1 Football program. The incentive for anyone to go to GT is twice as good as any diploma mill school. We have not only the great history and tradition for Div 1 sports, but we have an academic track record second to none. With world-class academics and a reputation for engineers that has wide recognition, A student-athlete who is serious cannot get a better deal anywhere than GT. Stanford has become our biggest competitor, and yet they do not have the kind of world-wide recognition that GT has. Impact from graduates around the globe was further recognized as GT connected when the olympics put the GT name in front of everyone in the world.

We need to play up our academics and name recognition for real student-athletes r/t compete with Ugag for mercernary athletes who never intend on learning, graduating, and changing the world.
