Gurley Suspended for NCAA Violations

Just noticed they re-added the words "with integrity" to the Heisman mission statement. Nice try sneaking that change by us. "Erroneously omitted", ha

How about somebody bring up bylaw 16.01.1 :

A student-athlete shall not receive any extra benefit. Receipt by a student-athlete of an award, benefit or expense allowance not authorized by NCAA legislation renders the student-athlete ineligible for athletics competition in the sport for which the improper award, benefit or expense was received. If the student-athlete receives an extra benefit not authorized by NCAA legislation, the individual is ineligible in all sports.

It's not actually the bylaws, but a separate guidelines document.
 
Ahhh. So the bylaws are to make everybody happy and sound like a hard and fast punishment. But there is a separate "guidelines for reinstatement" manual to bring back the ineligible. Sounds about like the NCAA to me...
 
All I know is I had high hopes about GT getting a slap on the wrist over $387 worth of clothing and well they kicked us in the nuts. I wouldn't be shocked if Gurley played next week or if they sat him the remainder of the season.

All I care about now is UNC. I want to see how well our guys can take a punch and get back up. Need confidence and swagger before our date with ugag this year.

Play how we did against Miami we win out until ACCCG. Play like we did against Duke or GSU in second half and well we are SOL
 
Does anyone know what the criteria are for deciding whether a team should have to vacate wins for using an ineligible player? In the bylaws I only see something about vacating wins for championships. Maybe they do not vacate wins for ineligible players in regular season games unless there is some broader infraction?

OK, it sounds like if Gurley accepted improper benefits that is at least a Level III violation. Per Bylaw 19.9.8:

Penalties for Level III and Level IV violations may include, but are not limited to, the following:
(b) Forfeiture/vacation of contests in which an ineligible student-athlete participated

The key word there is may. How do they decide? Is it totally discretionary?

As far as I understand wins are vacated when the school knew about the violations but let the player play anyway. E.g. Ohio State where Jim Tressel admitted that he had been e-mailed about the tattoos, Penn State where there was a systematic coverup by the coaching staff, or of course us and Demaryius.

I didn't see it as a little brother thing at all. I think most of us have enjoyed the schadenfreude aspects of the story.

So....a thread about what is hailed to be the best RB and frontrunning RB for heisman getting busted by the NCAA and getting suspended midseason isn't a popular CFB message board topic?

I'm not sure missing two games is surmountable for the Heisman. Especially if it is a suspension based on an integrity issue.

Charlie Ward missed a game and still won the Heisman tho
