We've heard sooooooo much disention over the last however long over CCG's coaching, recruiting, etc.............., and I'll have to admit that I have been questioning his tactics at times too but I still supported him nonetheless.
Now, just think along these lines for a mement.
In the recruiting wars from 2002-2005, according to Rivals:
1) Miami has been up near the top of the pile. They averaged ranking in 4th place during this time period. Rivals offers a points grade which shows over the 4 year period that Miami would have rated an average of 1231 points.
2) Ga Tech in respect to Miami has been at an average of 56th place in recruiting rankings with a points average of 398.
How in the world could GT beat Miami with those credentials facing them? I think it could be a multiple of reasons:
1) COACHING
2) PLAYERS
3) CHARACTER
I don't ever see GT being competitive with Miami in recruiting, so it's going to take a better coaching staff to bring the lesser recruits up to beating the better recruits. It appears that our coaches have been concentrating more along the character lines than the recruitment rating lines. Whether or not we beat UGA this year in not the most important thing right now. What we saw last night is though. As long as any GT team gives it ALL it has, as it did last night, I'll be happy with how ever the score turns out. I do strongly believe that when the team does as it did last night, the wins will take care of themselves. I also believe this is a result of good coaches teaching character in the game. Please don't misunderstand character as a weakness or a milk toast type player. The exact opposite is the case. I'm speaking of character here as doing your best when all is against you. Going deep in the gut to pull up whatever it takes to get you on top. If it means a O-Lineman moving a defender's mouth over an inch or two, so be it. If it means a pass receiver going up for a reception while knowing he's about to be slaughtered, so be it. CHARACTER-GUTS-INTEGRITY-INTELLIGENCE make this game great.
