He's a pretty good guy, even if he is cocky and confident. He says ND has a great "athlete" as one of its QBs. Throws and runs well but no experience. He doesn't think Clausen will start.

So I started thinking: How would Weis attack our almost rock-solid defense? If it were me, I believe I would attack our corners relentlessly using the athletic QB. Sweeps, flat passes, options, end around, etc. Then, when we least expect, QB draws. I don't think I would throw over the middle but after much running, I might sneek in a long pass or two.

Your thoughts?

i expect a lot of running to set up PA Fakes. the QB will only throw short, easy passes... slants, screens (prob a lot of screens), flats passes, short hooks, etc...

still, i expect about 65/35 run to pass ratio

65/35 run to pass ratio

I pray ND runs 65% of the time vs our front 7, because it means their passes will all come on 3rd and long.

If that's the case, ND is in for a long afternoon. No way they will be able to march up the field consistently on our D. This is the first game of the year, and all starters are fresh and ready to hold strong. Oh, and our run D is the strongest of the two.

We will see WVU's offense on Saturday. That's what Weiss is planning on running.

no you wont. do you honestly think that Weis is going to fully adopt WVU's entire offense after spending 2 days with richy rod? no, you will see SOME PLAYS from WVU's offense... but it won't be the entire offense.

Esso, I agree with you. Part of it would depend on how much confidence I had in my quarterback and offensive line, as well as my defense. A lot of people seem to think they will work some of West Virginia's offense into their strategy. To me, asking a young, inexperienced kid to run the option and read our coverages puts a lot of pressure on him.

In a somewhat related matter, here is my season preview: http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=140&f=2938&t=904041&sto=pagestart. Esso, I apologize in advance for it. :-)

Lol, "some plays" is probably all it would take to gut us.

He better, because they moved the ball on us in that offense. Other than Clemson, WVU was the only team last year that was able to run on us effectively and part of that was because Coley was running delayed draws. If you think a drop back West Coast Offensive game is going to work for y'all you better think again. Tenuta will eat your lunch and it'll just be open season on your QB. If you aren't running some form of running/draw option with your QB, then you will lose this game badly. If you want to win, 75% of your offense needs to be a hybrid of WVU's offense last year with Coley at QB. Otherwise, you are officially ****ed.

well, clemson and WVU both had established OL that played very well. ND's inexperience will not allow them to achieve the same success levels. i know that DD is not nearly as mobile as Pat White (although, he's a better passer), but i don't know how he stacks up to Korn. regardless, ND doesn't have the experience or practice to run those offenses as smoothly as Clemson and WVU. i doubt that Weis would re-write his entire playbook for one game.

who said ND was thinking that? ND doesn't even run a WCO... they run pro style. besides, my offensive predictions certainly do not mirror those of Weis's... that's why i'm not a coach. i was guessing at what he will run... not stating it as hard fact.

Tenuta will eat your lunch
no he wont, i'll be in tennessee. plus, i'm very protective over my food... i'll bite his nose off and stuff it into his.... um, nose hole.

and it'll just be open season on your QB. If you aren't running some form of running/draw option with your QB, then you will lose this game badly.
lol, this sounds like a bully ultimatum that you would hear in high school. sorry, but the GT defense has more holes than JUST an option.

who is coley? i honestly don't know this name. and, i don't think ND will use 75% of WVU's scheme after Weis spent JUST 2 days with richy rod.

Otherwise, you are officially ****ed.
no, you are the one that is four-starred, my friend.

Never thought I would say it, but nice post instant. I was thinking about making a response to BOR's overall bitterness, but I think you bested anything I could have come up with. Thanks for a hearty chuckle during the work day.

Indeed WVU showed Tenuta's ultimate weakness: two contenders for the Heisman trophy in the backfield.

The West Coast Offense is a pro style offense. It relies on short passes and draws instead of up the gut runs and deep passes to take advantage of an aggressive defense. That's what I expect Weiss to run because your QB isn't going to have time to wait while his receiveres get open. Besides it spreads our players out and eliminates the effectiveness of our blitzes.

Pat White (edited, not Coley White) is the WVU Qb who ate our lunch last year with his delayed draws.

Now I don't expect Weiss to throw away his entire playbook, but if he runs the exact same offense against us as you did last year, then I wouldn't expect great results from it. Our defense is more stout this year and your offense is a lot weaker.

That is why I expect ND to rely heavy on short passes and draws, which go figure happens to be a lot like WVU's offense.

Our weaknesses on defense are these:
1.) We have unproven Cornerbacks, but if you don't have time to throw you won't expose this flaw. So I expect to see short passes.
2.) We have an aggressive defense. If you can take advantage of whose committed on the defense, leaving a hole eslewhere, go for it. We hide our stunts better than any team in the country. But Brady Quinn didn't do it well, so I don't expect a rookie QB to do it well at all. What I do expect is a lot of draws by the QB to neutralize our aggressiveness.

3.) It will be the first game of the season and of course our guys may be out of sync at the beginning. but so will yours.

After that, maybe you know a lot more about the holes in our defense, but the two things that seem to make obvious sense for your offense to run are 1.) QB draws, similar to WVU's and quick hitch passes reminscent of a West Coast Offense. Keep them spread out, neutralize the blitz, and keep the defenders guessing on the quick slant or the QB draw. If you manage to freeze our LB's you will have some success if not a lot. This is exactly why WVU beat us.

Clemson beat us because their OLIne was so much bigger than our Dline and they just flat out took it to us. Since your OLine isn't as big or as experienced as Clemson's, I imagine that you need to probably lean more towards the WVU film as opposed to Clemsons. But what do I know. We'll see on Saturday. Make sure you come back to the board to visit. You are enjoyable.

- Pat White is the QB - Coley is his bro, a HS SR.

- Clemson also didn't have a whole lot of success running the ball in the first half, but they kept pounding and pounding (with the bigger, experienced line) and eventually wore our defense down. Leading to the long run at the end of the 3rd Q and a couple in the 4th Q. Virginia did this to us the year before with their huge, experienced OL (and mobile QB Hagans).

Duhhh.. thanks. Whoever the damn WVU QB was ate our lunch. My mind must be on recruiting.
