Happy Cumberland Day

“The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, led by legendary coach John Heisman, routed Cumberland College 222-0 in the most lopsided game in college football history Oct. 7, 1916.”

Notice Cumberland is located in Lebanon, TN, the corresponding home of the Cracker Barrel restaurants.

It was a good season.....

Didn't they have a contract to play us but no team so they ended up getting volunteers to sling something together?

Ken has a link to the AJC article that ran the next day covering the "burlesque."

Dam that Washington and Lee took a NC from us
Doubtful. Ohio State, Army and Pitt were undefeated (Pitt's second in a row under Pop Warner) that year. Pitt was national champ.

FWIW useless trivia, when we were the champs the following year, Pitt finished 10-0-0. They were 4-1 in 1918 with a win over GT and their first loss in Pop Warner's first three years at Pitt was to the Cleveland Naval Reserves (not a college team) 10-9. Warner won his first 31 games in a row at Pitt against colleges before losing to Syracuse (and beating GT again the following week). That's the kind of guy we should be looking for.

The game might have changed a bit since the club sport days.
