Have any gone back to look at 2008-17 GT stats?

Just looked at some simple offensive stats for GT. I took what appeared to be GTs best years vs. 2017.
Anyone have some defensive stats for comparison.

Paul Jonson
2008 - (9-4), Pass completions 45% @ 99 ypg, Rush 273 ypg, Total "O" - 372 ypg, 24 ppg (Bowl loss)
2009 -(1o-3) Pass 46% @ 127 ypg, Rush 295 ypg. Total "O" 422 ypg, 34 ppg (Bowl loss)
2011 -(8-5) Pass 49% @ 142 ypg, Rush 317 ypg, Total "O" 458 ypg , 34 ppg (Bowl Loss)
*2014 - (11-3) Pass 52% @ 134ypg, Rush 342 ypg, Total 477 ypg, 38 ppg (Bowl GT win 49 - 34)
2016 - (9-4) Pass 52% @ 123 ypg, Rush 258 ypg, Total "0" 387 ypg. 28 ppg. (Bowl GT win 33-18)

2017 - Passing 36% @ 84ypg, Rushing 307 ypg, Total 391 ypg.

36% with Ricky Jeune on the team? Forgot how atrocious our passing game was last year.

Really need Steven Dolphus to step up in a big way at the WR position.

I don't understand some in other threads blaming the WR corps for the poor performance of the passing game last year. The reality is that our receivers last year were solid and the offensive line wasn't significantly worse in pass blocking than previous years. Marshall just did not pass well, and didn't seem capable of getting the A-backs involved in the passing game in the same way that JT did.

Remember when we used to throw to Bbacks, Laskey and Days specifically. Not often, but enough.

The truth. You cant use OL or WR excuse for Marshall because that's a consistent variable in our offense. He's a very good ABack pretending to be a quarterback.

That is right. I'm not sure the team as a whole wouldn't be better off with Taquon at A-back and someone else running the show. I will say that Taquon threw the ball much better earlier in the year, i think he can do it. Maybe he needs a quicker hook when he gets going sideways.

If we are going to be upset with anything, it should be that after JT5, our best option was to ask an AB to play QB - for two years. The fact that there was no one recruited for the position that was ready to play is absurb given the importance of this role in our offense.

(and after what I saw last year, no, it's not a testament to how good TQM is)

But we did. We had Matt Jordan for that, but thanks to injury and getting beat out by TQM in 2017 camp, he wasn't the answer. And we lost Jay Jones to transfer - who would have been a contender in this camp.

If you figure out how to make recruiting an exact science, you can make a lot of money. Spurrier goes to South Carolina and never has a decent QB after having all those great UF qbs.

something-something-recruiting-restrictions-not-CPJ's-fault

Jay Jones left because he was buried on the depth chart. He wouldn’t have contended for anything.

I think Marshall is better than y'all are giving him credit for. He's not a good passer, but he's a pretty damn good runner and made a lot of big plays for us last year. If he can get a little more comfortable at completing the easy passes and making reads, he could be a very good player this year.

But yeah, we never should have been stuck with Tevin Washington at QB for 2.5 years and a converted A-back for the last 2. With as many players as we recruited for that position, we should have done better.

Hopefully James Graham is as good as his film looks. It would be fantastic to have him for starting for 3 or 4 years.

Hear, here. I'm impressed that he was able to take his small HS offense and compete with a 7A team. The kid's fearless and seems to have the tools needed for CPJ's schemes. Hopefully he gets a shot.

Conversely, I don't think we're ever gonna know what Lucas Johnson is capable of.

Completely, or at least partially, disagree. Marshall is definitely not Tom Brady throwing the ball, but the OL pass protection was horrendous. By the time Marshall turned 90 degrees to his left and then turned 180 degrees to his right (don’t ask me why) to throw, a defensive player was always in his grill. If Marshall was not so elusive, we would have had -1000 yards in sacks and a less mobile QB might have been killed. We had one receiver who could get open and he was shadowed. We never had enough time for the Aback wheel routes to develop.

Our opponents took advantage of our wide, wide splits to shoot the gaps on both running and passing plays. It is the new way to play our offense.

It's not like our opponents have a route tree to defend or game plan against. Just defend the deep pass. Whether it's wheel, seam or flag route, it's going deep (and missing by a country mile).
