Let me make sure I understand this:
There was originally an allotment of 17,500 tickets each to U of HI and UGA.
But...U of HI decided to accept / purchase only 13,500 tickets. The other 4,000 went to UGA, who has sold out the 17,500 and the 4,000.
Of those 13,500, only 8,500 tickets of the initial allotment made it to season-ticket holders because 5,000 were reserved for the university, travel packages and corporate sponsors.
Now an additional 1,500 tickets are being made available to them.
Tickets were never made available to the general public in Hawaii.
UGA has sold it's original allotment of 17,500, plus an additional allotment of 5,000, plus the 4,000 that HI originally did not accept.
Let's recap:
Superdome capacity approximately 70,000
13,500 + 1,500 = 15,000 tickets allotted to HI.
(5,000 of the original 13,500 allotment did not go directly to the general public)
UGA has sold out of its original 17,500 allotment plus 5,000 plus 4,000 accepted from what HI refused.
That's a total of about 15,000 sent 2,200 miles over the Pacific to HI and 26,500 to UGA.
That's 41,500 total. Now, here's a quote from HI's associate AD:
"Our waiting list is less than 100," McNamara said. "Georgia's is more than 5,000. ... Georgia is dealing with disappointed fans. We're dealing with disappointed fans."
That's just the waiting list for season ticket holders. UGA has about 3x as many season ticket holders as HI.
Who do you think is going to end up with the almost 30k tickets that were not part of the allotments?
Excuse me if I am not worried about the extra 1,500 HI fans that tickets were made available to.
