790am this morning with Matt Chernoff & Chuck Oliver. I am really impressed with Coach Grobe & his opinions on how to build a 'program'. This guy is gonna get Wake Forest on the football map before he's thru & then he'll be able to get a job anywhere, then he'll, sadly, move on.
Grobe said "if we can get to the point where all our starters 'have to take a serious shave each morning' we'll be able to compete for the ACC. By that I mean we need to get to having our starters be 5th yr Srs & 4th yr Jrs. Last year we redshirted every player & this year we've only played 3 true Fr". (Made me think of the lost yrs GT has taken with letting Fr play on STs & in only blowouts, but I digress). Grobe went on to add "it'll take us 3-4 yrs to get there. At WF we can't get the players as big or fast as Clemson or Fla St, but if we can get good football players with good academics, we can get there. We have to get good football players. Given the time (I presume thru redshirting & low attrition) where we can put some muscle on em & some weight on em, we can compete for the conference championship".
Extremely impressed with this man's attitude. Knowledgable man, well spoken & really knows program building (Wake Forest 'nailed down' the perfect man for their football program). He's making a heck of a reputation with WF as they're growing in toughness "we like to run the football & run it some more".
