For those of you who haven't been keeping up, the ACC blogger at ESPN, Heather Dinich, has been doing a countdown of the top 30 players in the ACC.

She's currently at 14 (link), and there are not yet any GT players on the list.

Predictions? Here's mine:

D Morgan - #12
M Burnett - #6
J Dwyer - #1

I could've seen Roddy sneaking onto this list, but I would've though he was in the 20-30 range. Seems unlikely he's in the top 13.

:roflmao: however sad but that is probably what's going to happen. As much as HD drinks the GT Kool-Aid, she's drunk off the TT Kool-Aid
I think tyrod is the #1 player even though the definition for 'top player' is not clear. He led the winning drive against GT, led them to the ACC title, and then a BCS bowl win. And remember, Sean Glennon was failing miserably, so not anyone could have suited up as QB and done it.

I did some listing of mine and came up with these:
dwyer
burnett
spiller
evans
tyrod
christian ponder
miami qb
russell wilson
that makes 8 of 13 left.

So I could actually see Nesbitt making this list as well as james seweel and Thaddeus Lewis.

VT won more despite Tyrod Taylor than because of him.

They averaged 33:00 of possession time, third in the nation, yet still had one of the ACC's worst offenses.

I'm not saying they won't be really good again in 2009. But they were really lucky last season, and their offensive potential seems limited due to Beamer's loyalty to Stinespring.

Their biggest advantage this season is their schedule. Their only tough ACC road game is at GT. They miss the two best Atlantic teams (FSU and Clemson) while GT and Miami play them both.

I don't see Tyrod Taylor as the number one player in the league, though she might put him there. As good as he is, he is a quarterback. He can only go so far without being a decent passer. Same can be said of Nesbitt really, though it all comes down to what is asked of the players and in that area Nesbitt is probably a better QB than Taylor. Same reason why I think Dwyer is the better player than Taylor. Dwyer does what is asked of him, excells at it and then goes beyond.

looking at dinich's list and guestimating, these are probably coming up too:
jason worilds
ras-i dowling
VT's huge TE/QB
mark paschal or alex wujciak

cant be paschal. If that is the linebacker for UNC you're think of, right? Cause if so he got a spine injury that means he can't play football anymore.

And the TE's name was Boone. I remember that cause when he played QB against Maryland I thought the home crowd was booing the team, but sadly, twas untrue.

I think she'll put Russell Wilson at #1, Taylor at #2 and Dwyer at #3. She has a huge crush on Wilson.

I understand the hype Tyrod is getting but seriously, the guy had 2 tds vs. 7 ints. If willie korn is anywhere on that list i'll never read that blog again. If she leaves off d. morgan or bay-bay i'm gonna flip my $hit. I think after the season, we could very well have the top 3 players in the ACC with Uno, JD, and Josh. Especially if Josh rushes for 1000 and throws for 1500+.

Hell, I'd leave Bebe Thomas off the list, until he can reliably catch passes that hit him in the hands. She'll put Taylor at #2 for the same reasons that everyone else in the nation has the Hokies as a Top 10 team. Hype.

Realistically, IMO, the top 30 ought to include:
J Dwyer #1-5
M Burnett #1-5
D Morgan #5-10
J Nesbitt #10-20
R Jones #20-30
D Thomas #20-30

For the whole conference I don't think Thomas would get into that range, though he'd be an honorable mention. I think Jones or Nesbitt would be good enough to get on it, but it might not happen.

If field leadership and quick decisions are any basis of this list, JN should be in the top 10. Dwyer and Burnett should be top 5. But I don't give a crap what Heather says. I just want to win EVERY football game.

I've come to care less about what is said in terms of whether people favor us or not, I'd just rather have it not happen that way cause I'm tired of hearing **** from other fans about it.

Im not surprised to find Nesbitt off this list after last season.. the first half of the 2008 campaign was pretty rough for Josh plus the injuries that kept him out of Duke, Miss St, and half of FSU, after 2009 however, you can bet your butt he will be top ten

Surprised roddy didnt sneak in from 25-30

Burnett, Dwyer, Morgan all belong in the top 12

BeBe just doesnt see the ball enough to be on this list.. on my list? absolutely, the kid has great hands, size, speed, etc, but on a stage like best overall players in the ACC? hes a bit too unproven for now. Maybe 2009 will direct some of the limelight his way

The end
