HD's VT preseason prediction sparked a premonition...

So her prediction is that VT's defense, of course, will be the difference.

Well I thought to myself yeah she's probably right. Then a subsequent though occurred to me. VT's defense will not be any better than last year's, seeing's how they lost seniors, Macho Harris especially.

GT and Miami's offense will be a TON better, I expect. Well Nix managed to beat VT, but GT's only hold back was we probably only had about 10 plays to chose from or could run for that matter.

By HD only relying on the defense, she fails to realize how horrible VT's offense is, and I think this is the year that VT finally figures out that if they are going to compete with the GT and MIA they are going to have to do better than a 103rd ranked offense. This year there is no "luck" for them. They play GT in the middle of the season, should be far fewer hold backs, and I think Hokie nation is in for a rude awakening. Bud Foster will not look as good this time next year.

Those are my preseason rankings for VT.
 
Or I guess for that matter Stinespring. Who is now the Nix of the ACC, we all know how that will turn out.
 
Hope that you're right, but I would imagine that VT's offense will be better w/Taylor. Assuming he isn't in jail, he can cause a lot of D's fits w/his feet.

Your offense can be putrid if the D and special teams are really good.

VT is my most disliked team in the conference, but they have a heckuva staff. Foster's game plan against us was good. However, we were still a oh-so-close off of Roddy's fingertips deep pass away (even w/the dubious call on Cooper for the helmet to helmet). I think that we attack them better this season, but our interior D will have a tough assignment keeping Taylor in the pocket.
 
VT will get their ass kicked by us. UNC will beat them too. Their run is over. I think it will be a battle between UM and VT for third. One positive about VT is I think they match up nicely with Alabama, and have a great shot at winning that one. I'd say it's a coin toss. By the way, VT fans are horrible people. Very similar to UGA.
 
Tyrod Taylor is the real deal. VPI's offense will be decent. If we can't lock Taylor down and keep him from making the big plays with his feet, it'll be a high-scoring game. That said, I don't think VPI's D will be able to stop us. I don't see a blow-out, but I do see a W in our future. It should be a good, close game.
 
What has Taylor done that makes him the real deal? It's an honest question, because other then some semi-decent scrambles to make plays from nothing, I've never seen him prove he's a great player. He reminds me of Reggie. The VPISU offense made almost zero improvement during the course of last season.

It's not that I'm overly confident that we will whip VPISU, but I'm having some trouble discerning why everyone seems to have OD'ed on the castrated turkey flavored kool-aid.

I don't think UNC will beat them. They play VT in Blacksburg on a Thursday night right after playing FSU at home on a Thursday night. I think them winning would be among the biggest ACC upsets for the year.

The answer to you asking why is the last two games VPI played. Everyone looks at them having a good scoring day against BC, a decent accomplishment but seeing as they lost the first time around and BC was playing with an incredibly green QB (which effects the morale of the team) it isn't jaw-dropped, and their decent beating of Cincinnati (wow, how amazing....).

What no one ever looks at is their single offensive touchdown and 5 turnovers against Duke 2 weeks before and their 3-point, amazingly dumb QB throw to end game, win over UVA.

VT's offense will likely be better than last year's but I don't expect it to be that good. Their D suffered some graduation losses but it will still be very good simply because Bud Foster is still there. People drink the kool-aid simple because they have won 10+ games for the last 5 years.
 
My oversimplified thoughts:

VT's offense will be incrementally better. Evans developed into a very good RB last year, and TT is good. They will be tougher to defend. Their D will not be better than last year. Perhaps as good, but not better.

Our offense already improved over our game with VT last year, and was significantly better by the end of the year. If we'd played them in November, we would have beaten them by 3 TD's. Our O is even better this year - second year in the system, etc.

Our rushing D is not goign to be as good as last year, however. Perhaps overall the same, being better against the pass. But VT doesn't pass, they run.

So this game pits their incrementally improved offense against our lessed rushing D, and our significantly improved O against their somewhat lesser D. I think this adds up to a game dominated by rushing attacks, and I think ours will be more effective.

I think we win by 2 TD's.
