Big money meeting at the AA coming the 18th. It will be interesting what is said and done at this meeting.

We are in financial trouble at this time. This is D Rads moment to shine.

More $$$ from where?

This seems like a joke, but law_bee would be the absolute last person on the board to be making it.

I guess I'm just confused by this post.

Yeah, me too!

Here's my take for what it's worth.

After talking to a few big money donors, the reason for this meeting is to find out if WC is going to put his full support into the program. These are guys and ladies that have given a lot over a long period of time. They don't have confidence or believe WC on anything he says.

These donors believe Chan will continue to improve what he has brought to Tech.

THAT DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE HAPPY WITH THE LAST 3 GAMES LAST YEAR!

But they believe he is building a strong solid program that does things right. Chan has shown we can make it to the ACCcG even though the Acc was down but never the less we went 7-1. It would not surprise me that they have come up with more money to retain Chan based on Thursdays meeting outcome.

No one is happy with last years finish, me especially but I don't want our program to be a stepping stone for greener pastures. I feel 9 to 10 wins a year is attainable and we should be competing for the ACCC every year.

Some one earlier said we have beaten the nad lickers 11 times out of 40, that is unacceptable and should change immediately. It is our in state rival for GODS sake.

This is Chans ( if he is here ) next obstacle and that is final. Beat them and we move on lose to them and serious questions should be asked.

This opinion is probably not worth .02 so I will say this is opinion is worth .01

We are in Financial Trouble?????

If so, then some people need to be fired. From what I understand, the football program brings in over 10 Million a year (not including conference money) but costs less than 4 million to operate. Someone with math skills better than mine might be able to tell me how that equates to a net loss. Now, if you include the AT fund donations required to purchase football tickets, it is impossible for the football program to be in "financial trouble."

Football isn't in financial trouble, but the GTAA overall is tight.

Football revenues also cover the non-revenue sports (which are most of the other sports--I believe the only self-sufficient sports are football and men's basketball.)

Those sports don't cost 6 million to operate, but it is another line in the football budget.

I have assumed it's the GTAA overall ...got to be. If the football program were in the red then there would be some serious issues to contend with.

yes the overall GTAA is close to the red...it is all tied in together

As an accountant, the GTAA lost $3 million last year. The moves DRad is making will easily make up this shortfall (through student fees being raised, the Hill kicking in more $, and the seating assessments, more aggressive fundrailsing, and ticket sales were higher this year).

That is the first issue. The second is that the football stadium renovation costs $110 million and that is what the debt is currently. The GTAA needs to work this debt level down to gain financial flexibility and be able to eye larger projects like an new AMC for example.

DB did nothing, that I can tell, to shore up the GTAA's financials...

Both numbers seem too low. The costs, including the player scholarships, recruiting expenditures, debt on stadium expansion and coach's salaries, must be greater than 4 million.

The revenues should also be a bit greater than 10 million. I beleive the GTAA puts conf. sharing into their "general" section and not under football revenues.

Remember that money, I believe, can "pass through" the GTAA. If donors are willing to step up (like in Alabama's case) and say "I will pay $$$ per year above what I normally give to help keep Coach ____ on staff"...and assuming you want to keep the coach from the AD perspective...then why not use the $$$.
