Here is a local who will be attending camp at Tech

Looks like that Calhoun bunch really has their act together.
Not only do they seem to put out exceptional athletes, they play well as a team too. Says a lot for their coach IMHO.

romegajacket: Here is another Calhoun Yellow Jacket, Adam Urbano....the best high school runner I have ever seen and one of the most overlooked by recruiting pundits. Last year as a sophmore he ripped off over 2000 yards and 30 touchdowns.....averaging about 13 yards per carry.

Along with Kris Durham(Georgia signee) and Cody Worley(Furman signee) it took no less than DJ Donley and his Charlton County friends to slow down and finally halt the Yellow Jackets in the state championship game 27-21.

Anyway I found this link, Click Here: Adam Urbano

I wonder if Master B and our other insiders are onto Urbano. I certainly hope our wonderfully improved coaching staff is already marking down Calhoun as a destination of importance over the next 18 months! Urbano is a natural runningback who has sure hands out of the backfield, great fundementals as far as following blockers and protecting the ball and he is a legit speedster.

Very good write-up on him.
With 4.4 speed, he should also catch a lot of attention from the enemy.
I hope he doesn't get overlooked like the Hyder kid from Darlington did.
BTW, who else is on the horizon at Calhoun for the near future? They're turning into a mass production sports factory it appears. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hugelaugh.gif No getting around the fact that they are the ones to beat in this area now.

Urbano

I called some folks..who know some folks that know Urbano real well from the classroom aspect. I know this makes it triple hearsay but they said "Forget it. They cannot believe that Calhoun can even keep him eligable."

He was struggling in the Floyd County schools before Calhoun recruited him. Calhoun is a great program, but they are SEC to the core if there was such a thing in high school. There are some great kids up there but just like SEC schools they will sell their soul for wins.

(1) You sound very biased
(2) Urbano has went to one highschool: Calhoun, and there has never been the smidgen of a rumor that Calhoun recruited him from Floyd County or anywhere else on Scout.com's Georgia highschool board.....and believe me! They would know......them highschool boards don't play footsies with recruiting charges.
(3) He just completed his sophmore year! His classwork is still a work in progress. I would give him another year to see what direstion his grades will go in before deciding whether he has a chance to qualify.
(4) Surely he sees what college can do for him and he already has started to put in the effort. Or why would he go to a scouting combine?

Re: Urbano

Thank is bunk flyjacket.

Hal Lamb comes from a family steeped in education/football tradition made up of teachers, coaches, and administrators. His brother is Bobby Lamb, head coach at Furman.

Bobby Lamb is the current head coach at Furman. He played for his father in high school, Ray Lamb, at Commerce. Bobby Lamb was also the QB that lead Furman to a win over us in the mid-80's btw.

The circle runs much bigger from there from relationships they have had in other families that led to various coaching and teaching positions across Georgia and South Carolina for other familiar names.

If Hal Lamb is guilty of anything, it is that he does not appear to enjoy promoting his players. He prefers to keep everything close to the vest and do more placement than anything...and just worry about his own team. That is why you do not hear a lot about his players....plus the fact that they play at a lower classification in Georgia.

The reason Kris Durham snagged so much attention is that his father was a former UGA track standout, and they promoted the heck out of him themselves.

Somewhat inclusive at Calhoun...maybe. Not a bunch of cheaters though.

btw...both Cody Worley and Kris Durham graduated with GPA's north of 3.5 and SAT well over 1000 on the old scoring.

Re: Urbano

Thanks for bringing up the Furman game Hiveredtech! Just kidding. I will agree with you about the Lamb's. 1st class all the way. Since Redbud, Fairmont and I think another school merged a few years ago it seems as if they have put together quite a program over there.

I used to enjoy playing the Red Bud's and Fairmont's of the world though. They were nice rivalry's.

Re: Urbano

I believe Redbud and Fairmount merged into Gordon Central. The "county" school, while Calhoun remains the "city" school.

Something I have always found to be humorous!

Re: Urbano

You're right, my bad. I forgot about Gordon Central. I just remember those two little schools had some of the best b'ballers around. A couple of them were dead on from 25' in.

Re: Urbano

We actually had a kid sign with GT in the early 90's from Gordon Central that was part of Red Bud prior to the merger. It was DL James Richards, who unfortunately flunked out.

Hey SL, do they have HS forum boards?

Mover: Just some of the best boards around! If you love Georgia highschool football you will bookmark this site as one of your favorites, click here: Georgia High School Football(scroll down to football, it's discussed by classifications)

Here is another one for historical information, click here: Georgia football historical stats and names

Re: Urbano

Mover: I'll bet the first thing you did in the historical site was to make sure you was listed as 'All-State' and the 'Lineman of the Year' in 1982. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugher.gif

Seriously, it is an awesome site...an encycodedia of knowledge of Georgia football from it's inception till now. I can't possibly believe there is another state that has one comparable.

The Georgia highschool vent has every rumor and opinion and tidbit of information.....its like having a reporter or three stationed at every point of the compass covering every school.

Re: Urbano

No, it was the 3rd thing. LOL. I had a bet with a friend a few weeks ago about win loss for Gilmer high and then I wanted to see who the other all state linemen where in 82.

Re: Urbano

Hivered: I maybe wrong but I think that Ray lamb is also a past official(maybe president?) of the GHSA. If anyone would be very respectful of the organization that governs our public high school sports it would be Hal Lamb.

Re: Urbano

No, I am not biased and for sure could care less who wins around here. My kids went to a private school and they did not play sports. I like to see all the programs do well.

What I do know is lots of people and coaches. They do not bother to try to prove recruiting because it is so slick.

But everyone is just amazed at how Calhoun is able to convice so many Floyd County folks to move to Gorden County to attend high school. The Model folks are not happy about Urbano moving up there for high school. The Pepperell folks think they would have won baseball championships if their best kids had stayed instead of going to Calhoun. The Coosa folks think they would be a lot better if their best baseball players had stayed instead of going to Calhoun.

Heck, even the radio announcers talk about the Floyd kids suddenly moving to Gordon. One announcer even said it looked like Pepperell and Model playing out there!

So biased? NO. But folks around here just find it very odd that their most promising eighth graders keep winding up in Calhoun. That may be recruiting or they may just be that lucky.

Re: Urbano

You may be right. Maybe the reason so many Floyd County kids move to Calhoun after eighth grade is because he is such a great coach.

How many state titles has he won? I am just not a follower outside of Floyd County and just am not familiar with the gentleman.

Maybe the folks around here are indeed full of bunk. However, they do find it odd their very top players seem to move but the marginal ones hang around. So if the locals and the coaches are misleading me that is my bad.

Re: Urbano

I think every area in the country has a high school which plays good football, and all of the "locals" complain that they "recruit". The fact is...most schools, either from an athletic or academic standpoint, are recognized by parents who then take it upon themselves to move to an area where they children can best utilize their talents.
I have seen parents make moves like this for music, arts, sports, base academics, and specialized academics.
There is nothing wrong with it.
In football, parents have been knows to seek out Valdosta, Parkview, and Brookwood.
