After one year of retirement, DWAIN PAINTER is returning to professional coaching. The last team he worked for as receivers coach were the Dallas Cowboys (`98 -`99). Painter has coached 12 years in the NFL. He reached the Super Bowl twice. As a quarterbacks coach he made it to the final in 1995 with the San Diego Chargers, they were beaten by the San Francisco 49ers. As a special teams coach he won the Super Bowl in 1997 with the Denver Broncos versus his Galaxy coaching colleague Bob Valesente. The 59 year old Painter coached for 17 years at the college level. He was a quarterback and defensive back at Rutgers from 1960 to 1963 and was a member of the first unbeaten team (9-0 in 1961) in school history. He graduated from Rutgers with a bachelor`s degree in physical education in 1964 and a master`s in education in 1965. Dwain Edward Painter was born on February 13, 1942, in Monroeville, PA. He is married to the former Cathy Reinert of Pittsburgh. The Painter`s have four children – Gary, Michael, Chrissy and Doug – and three grandchildren.

Coaching career: Quarterback-defensive back Rutgers 1961-64. College coach: San Jose State 1971-72, College of San Mateo 1973, BYU 1974-75, UCLA 1976-78. Northern Arizona 1979-81 (head coach), Georgia Tech 1982-85, Texas 1986, Illinois 1987. Pro coach: Pittsburgh Steelers 1988-91, Indianapolis Colts 1992-93, San Diego Chargers 1994-96, Denver Broncos 1997, Dallas Cowboys 1998-99.
