Here is the letter from Mr Braine

I'm very glad we got a letter from Mr Braine, who includes Dr Clough's feelings. This is some reassurance. They state they know how the fans feel & are working hard to keep an excellent program going in the right direction. They state they feel we have the right Coach here. This is all good news.
I repeat, I believe Coach G can do this job. There are no examples of a HC being fired after 1 winning season. I repeat, I believe Coach G will be our HC in '03. No one on any message board knows if they'll get to work in the morning, much less what the future holds for a coach or a program. But everybody does speculate on what they'll do tomorrow, next week or next fall & what they think could happen to a coach or a program.
There are examples of a HC being fired after 5 consecutive winning seasons, Duhnan. Of being fired after an opening game loss to the Citadel, AD Broyles fired the Ark HC. Of being fired after 8 games into a season, Lewis. Weird things do happen. Human Beings cannot surpress speculating on what may happen. Ask any casino or stock trader. It's mostly FUN, FUN, FUN!

Frankly I took the letter as a sign that there are more people complaining about Gailey to the AA then most people think and not just a small minority on a message board. I also partly agree on the "kiss of death" concept for one reason. The letter signals that there is something amiss among the locals and therefore Braine is attempting to calm everyone down before it gets out of hand. Especially with the need to fill the stadium this year. If Gailey comes out next year and performs poorly (i.e.- no improvement as the season progresses) then those who are upset already will only get louder and probably grow in numbers. This only puts more pressure on Braine and might lead to a change if allowed to snowball.

Therefore, the letter itself is not the kiss of death but is a symptom of a growing number of dissatisfied customers which could snowball out of control if not stopped. That is what most ADs are doing when they state support of their coaches but if the coach continues to disappoint the fan base then it usually leads to change. It is basically up to Gailey to perform now and prove Braine and many others right. I'm satisfied with the fact that Braine has told us all that he and Gailey both expect a winning product and were not satisfied by this season's performance.

I also believe that you will see improvement this year and that all this will go down as much ado about nothing.

Wouldn't it have more effective for Dave Braine to send out a fresh copy of Chan's resume?

It could have served two purposes....first, most everyone around here could fondly remember their infatuation with that resume just one short year ago (hmmm...seems longer for some reason)....and secondly, and possibly more importantly, maybe some other school in need of a coach would see the resume and come to Chan's (and our) rescue!

Just a thought.

As I stated in another post I believe that the letter is a shot across the bow of CG's ship. He (DB) can not and will not tolerate another season of 51-7 and the debacle in San Jose. Like anyone working for a living you either produce or there is always someone waiting to take the job.

Personally, I didnt read too much into the letter.. some of us complained when there was no communication, and some of us complain when there is ... sometimes I think we just want to complain all the time... sometimes it seems like to glass is always half empty to some..

Braine and Clough realize, along with many others associated with the program, that this past year, we had a ton of injuries, and no play from the QB position. In addition to that, it was a transition year for all of the coaches, especially CG. Are they satisfied with the way things worked out.. no they arent. Are they capable of finding the answers.. I believe so.

In regards to recruiting, I dont think any class can be considered a bust or a success until the kids have had a chance to play on the college level. Most didnt feel last years class was that good.. I think it was a great class.. there have been star studded recruits that came to Tech who left their shine in High School (Do any of you remember a QB named Mike Jolly?)
I think it is apparent to everyone that over the past few years, we have taken a few too many marginal students, I think this staff is trying to right the course a bit in that regard.

Gailey will need time... but he will do us a good job... I believe that ! I wish some things were different, but this is the road we are on right now.. I will give them my full support.

Wrecked,

Read my post. I never said Braine did not owe the Tech Alumni an explanation on the $1.5m, I think he does. I said that Braine did not owe BDG a personal explanation in response to a letter he sent. To think that the AD will respond to every letter sent to him by alumni is far fetched. If he did, people would complain because he was spending too much time writing letters instead of looking after the Athletic Assosciation

Jacketguy. That's a very wise post. Thanks.

There are a goup of fonts here that are going to complain about anything and everythings. I'm not picking sides, but it's easy to tell who those fonts are.

Some are here clearly just to knock at Coach Braine and Coach Gailey. It's like their mission in life on StingTalk because they can't do it on another board. It's sad.

Belly,

Why the "lapdog" references? This is a GT board not a UGAg board. Next post your might pledge allegience to Rush L.

Is Rush still on the radio? I guess he's making fun of Taxin' Sonny these days.

I admit you are pretty good at it but you might want to listen to ole Rush's show to get real good at it. By the way, is it true that they have determined that Rush went deaf primarily from listening to himself day after day???

Would be understandable.

Belly,

Don't listen to radio very much but I have heard rumors that he (Rush) is still mind warping. StinGtalk is my life now. OOPS!!!!

Also, I read liberal rag sheets to have ammo for our pub friends.

BTW, good insight on the fickleness of fans in general.

BDG,

Personally, I don't think Braine owes you a personal explanation on Mac or the $1.5m buyout and I have been an AT contributor for over 15 years.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Strongly disagree here. If he expects me to pony up my measly donation while he holds my ticket location hostage, he damn sure better tell me why he has or has not collected $1.5 million owed to us through contract. I too have written Braine many letters and emails, unlike BDG, I did not expect him to write back. I would hope he has more to do than responding to fans individually unless they are big time donors. I think this letter is great, because it shows he feels the heat coming not just from peons on message boards but by people that matter. If Gailey is the right hire, we will know by the football team's performance next year.

Very well put, GTPilot. I wish I had your writing acumen & adroit view of the situation.
Good point, Oldfoggy.
Valid view point, Wrecked.

I did appreciate DB's letter. This shows to me he has his ear to the ground and has heard the rumblings from the faithful and gives to one and all the official status of CCG.

However, I also feel that the letter would have a smidgen more validity if CCG had signed also. To me this would have given the signal that all in the GTAA are on board this ship and are diligently working to overturn the debacles of UGAg and SVBowl.
