Here's a can of worms

Re: Here\'s a can of worms

Unfortunately the 'can of worms' is already open... IMHO it's hypocritical for the NCAA to preach amateurism while reaping billions in revenue yearly...
I've not got any answers or proposals but something has to be done... the system is inherently flawed and will eventually crumble and college athletics as we know it will suffer...
All the folks in Nebraska want to do is make what has been happening for years to now be legal... In and of itself it poses new problems but at least someone is discussing possibilities... that is always the first step to a solution...

Re: Here\'s a can of worms

Terrible rule! The players now receive a full scholarship for approximately $100,000.00 for four years. How many kids are there who can't even afford to attend college.

Once the big schools start paying the players, the schools with lesser revenues become disadvantaged and cannot compete on equal levels.

The richest colleges will be competing each year for the championships and the TV revenue. The remaining colleges will drop to a lower division or go the way of the Ivy League.

However, I could see it coming with the steep payments to the head coaches. It was only a matter of time until the players demanded and received additional stipends. Then the other sports, including the women's teams, will want additional stipends. Title IX will jump back to the forefront and become a bigger issue.

It will destroy the equality that has built up among the various teams around the country. Probably the major State university will survive from each State with all the others relegated as "has beens".

Oh well, few things last forever!

Couldn't agree more Ahsoisee...this could be devastating to College sports. Part of what makes college sports so appealling, over professional sports, is $$$$ for playing. Pretty soon a $100 stipend won't be enough either!!!
