Here\'s a ranking of present college coaches

Gailey beat out Franks for 8th place in the ACC. Why isn't he more highly thought of in national writings? Heck he went 7-5 reg season & garnered a Bowl bid even with several crucial players out with injuries. He was very highly thought of before he got to Ga Tech.
Certainly don't understand the thinking behind ranking Chan behind T Bowden & Bunting. Gailey has (had) coaching skills that put all but B Bowden to shame, even in the now glamorous ACC coaching realm. Why would he be perceived as less of a coach than 7 other ACC coaches?
The ONLY thing that comes to mind is that in college ball u must go out & recruit HS players to come to your school to play football & keep them after they get there. Perhaps Gailey is pictured as not bringing in the talent to keep him winning over the next few yrs while the other HCs appear to be bringing in talent to keep the ball rolling. I can't bring to mind a single other reason why Coach G would be sleighted like this. Can U?

Willingham at number 7 with a 1-4 bowl record? Notre Dame did nothing spectacular last year. Would anyone trade Chan for Guy Morris? Bunting? Some writers have too much time on their hands.

Read the article Ace. The author says it's about the here and now, or more succintly "what have you done for me lately". If Groh has a bad year and Tech does well the list will change.

Also to say he's behind Bunting and Bowden is a little silly, they are basically all considered the same, 59,60 and 61. You could argue with a lot of the ranking. Interesting that Mike Kruz??? however he spells it from CFU, who many seem to think is the next great coach is 53. Personally I don't see how they can rank Franks above guys who haven't coached a game yet.

GT Ace, the answer to your question is easy in my mind. These writers look only at statistics available to them. A major statistic is the won loss record and how the team performed the previous year.

Although there may be some extenuating circumstances affecting the record, the writers do not know this and do not have the time to investigate every angle of each coach, team, and school.

If Tech were to have a good year, I am willing to bet his appraisal of Gailey would go up in the next year's issue.
