Here\'s Insiders Top 100 prospects in the Southeast

Georgia is very well represented on this list, much more than last yr or even the yr before. Florida has it's usual supergood crop of players, but I was amazed at how many Ga players are on the list this yr. This will be a 'banner' yr for HS football in Ga. Wonder how many out of the Top50 GT will be allowed to recruit this yr? Wasn't it 8-9 last yr?
Also noticed the double OL from Westlake HS in Atl. Gailey's 1st recruits had a Westlake CB who changed his mind on signing day & went to WV instead of GT. Sure hope it wasn't something Coach G's staff said or did & GT still has an 'in' with Westlake coaches.
Anyway, here's a good look at what to expect as far as prospects go in the SE this yr. Gailey should make a killing so let's keep our fingers crossed.

That Calvin Johnson WR looks good 6-4 200. Maybe Gailey can convince him a Bilbo to Johnson connection is in his future. Also comments that he is an excellent student. Says he's considering Tech (among others), of course it's awful early. Anybody know of him?

Re: Here\'s Insiders Top 100 prospects in the Southeast

The young man, Calvin Johnson, is very, very good & any team would be proud to have him. There's absolutely no reason why Gailey's staff can't help him make his mind up to become a Yellow Jacket.
The LB, Brandon Miller, is even better & is a national top10 LB. He has been offered by Tech & there is absolutely no reason our staff shouldn't be able to sign him up as a Yellow Jacket.
The staff & players must be ready to sell Ga Tech as the place to play at. I expect Gailey & staff to have a phenominal recruiting yr. They better get dadgum serious about recruiting upper eschelon ACC players into GT.

GT Ace, you state there is no reason we cannot sign the indicated players. What if they decide they had rather go elsewhere?

I agree that Tech must be sold to some of these kids that nowdays know nothing but that crummy school in Athens. I bet most recruits at UGAg have no idea what major they are going to take or even fathom what they would do upon that slim chance that their NFL dreams don't pan out.

We have no excuse for not kicking butt in recruiting this year with the new stadium and the addition of UM and VT. Recruits now should have some doubt about whether the SEC with its constant probations is truly the better conference. I see that baton passing over soon to the ACC.

Re: Here\'s Insiders Top 100 prospects in the Southeast

If the 'gurus' in charge of GT's football team cannot recruit upper eschelon ACC players to come to Ga Tech, then a change should be made immediately. Tech won the ACC co-championship in football in '98 & made a run at it in '99 & nearly pulled a championship out of the hat in '00. Somebody recruited those championship players to GT.
If Hewitt or Hall cannot recruit upper eschelon ACC players to GT, then a change should be made there also. Hall is proven, Hewitt is almost there & I hope he doesn't fall on his face.
Remember, the #1 reason a player doesn't go to an offering school is that he doesn't like the HC or position coach. If this football coaching regime cannot bring in ACC winners, they are not doing their job. Remember O'L always saying "recruiting's like shaving, if you don't do it every day you look like a bum". Now just glance at how Gailey has looked with his recruiting & tell me does he look clean shaven or look like a bum?
Gailey had better get players in here with the ability of Calvin Johnson or Brandon Miller or equal talent, or Coach G's days are down into small numbers for drawing a GTAA paycheck.

Well put. JJacket.

You are so easy to read GT Ace. It was obvious you were going to turn the post into a bash Gailey post. That is the reason I asked the question in my first post here.

You are trying your best to be suave in your bashing Gailey routine, but it won't work. You might as well just come out and state you never have liked him.

You haven't fooled anyone.

Not every post is about Chan - Thank God!!! Recruiting is the life line of any program and if this coach or any other doesn't know that - we're doomed!

GT Ace made a relevant post about recruiting and the need for these coaches to get those kind of players - if the coach had been "Joe Shmoe" it would be the same comment. You better get these guys or you won't last long and you won't succeed.

Re: Here\'s Insiders Top 100 prospects in the Southeast

Thanks, MsT. U got the point perfectly. It doesn't matter at all who is HC in football. It does matter who they recruit to play for them. Obviously, Lewis blew it all badly & had to go. O'L got it done & we all tried real hard to keep him. Gailey is making his own bed now & if he can get the recruiting & academics down, could/should have great success. I truly hope he does & GT goes 11-1 with an Orange Bowl bid. That's my perfect Coach G scenario.
If he doesn't get the job of competing for the ACC championship done, he must go, a la Lewis. We'll know by the end of this season if Gailey can recruit players & coach the ones he recruits. Gailey's a real good fit for GT, but as Braine said many times right after the hire, "we don't know if he can win football games, yet".
If the HC of football @ Ga Tech doesn't get talented, winning players in here the coach won't last long. With Fla now an open door & Ga having a 'loaded' yr, there is NO REASON GT can't get a boatload of talent & win very BIG in the 1st decade of the 21st century.
