Here\'s why I\'m worried about recruiting...
One thing I've noticed is that a lot of people on the Tech boards have been saying things like "Oh, I'm not worried...I'm completely confident Chan will get the guys we need" or "Jeez, give the guy time, it's really early in the season to worry about recruiting." Well, here's why I disagree with a lot of those statements and am not completely confident Chan will get the job done...
Facts:
1. We currently have 7 recruits who have Tech "high" on their list. All of these but one are three stars (the one is zero stars). Of these seven players, three have not received an offer from Tech (not too big of a concern).
2. We then have 25 prospects who have "medium" interest in Tech and also have received an offer. Of these, 8 have setup and/or have hinted at setting up an official visit. 12 of these "medium" interest guys have another school "high" on their list.
3. 75 guys have Tech as medium interest, but have not received a ship yet. Of these men, only approximately 20% to 30% have said that Tech has been calling them (usually the interviewer will ask whose been calling them the most). So that means that only about twenty of these guys have been getting serious attention from the staff.
Now...you may or may not agree with the "star" system that rivals and most other sites have but UGA is absolutly murdering us in this department and every other one for that matter. UGA has nine commitments so far all ranked very highly and a whole boat load of prospects who have them "high" on their list. I also checked other school's recruitment lists who are at about the same level as us (teams like Maryland, Clemson, etc.) and we are getting smoked by them too. Almost every other team has 7 pages of prospects with their school listed as "medium" interest or higher...we have 4. I don't know if it's laziness by our staff or we are just zeroing in on a few select people, but we need to wake up. This is probably the most crucial year for our program in the last five years as far as recruiting is concerned. If Chan ends up getting it done...I'll be the first one to apologize. The way it looks, though, I fear for the next few years of our program.
