But they are having trouble tracking down his family members. So if any STer knows anyone who can help the folks at Score Atlanta get in touch with the Castleberry family, it would help them honor one of the great legends in Tech football history too.
This is from the Georgia High School Football Daily:
A running back, Castleberry was a great player at Boys High in Atlanta and went on to have a great freshman season at Georgia Tech in 1942, rushing for 171 yards a game and scoring 102 points. He finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting behind winner Frank Sinkwich from Georgia. Castleberry, then 21, enlisted in the Air Force and co-piloted a B-26 Marauder bomber and lost his life on a mission. Score has had a hard time finding out any family information, contacting Georgia Tech's Alexander-Tharpe fund, which raises money for the school's athletics, but it had no information on Castleberry. If you have any information on Castleberry's family, please call I.J. Rosenberg at 404-246-7819 or email ijrosenberg@ScoreATL.com.
