I don’t see 4 and 5 star players joining because they are already known and have a lot of offers already. Why risk it?Seems like a terrible idea to let high schools kids bash their brains in year round.
I would guess it ends up that it's mostly freshman or sophmores, and older guys who haven't gotten looked at much but still have the dream.I don’t see 4 and 5 star players joining because they are already known and have a lot of offers already. Why risk it?
Says who? Their parents? The kids themselves? This is why high school football in huge swaths of this country will be extinct in a few decades. Too many people think they know what is best for other people’s children.Seems like a terrible idea to let high schools kids bash their brains in year round.
Playing spring football isn’t going to give more HS kids the opportunity to play college football; there are still the same X number of college scholarships to dole out.Says who? Their parents? Now, would I let my kid do it? Nope. Because of what you said. But, I can afford to pay for his college education and he has no chance to ever make money from the sport. But, there are plenty of families and kids whose only shot a college degree is thru a sport and I would never say they don’t that right to get noticed to be given a life altering scholarship offer. And yes, it will be a hustle and money making venture for the coaches and leagues of course, but so is AAU hoops and travel baseball, travel volleyball, travel gymnastics, etc. But a lot of kids get offers using those hucksters.
As a dad of two boys who currently play football (one a rising 11th grader and the other a rising 8th grader), I have chosen to let my kids play ball. They want to play and the joy they get from the game and lifetime friendships they have made outweighs the risks IMO. I have educated them on the subject and I can tell you every kid in the USA is aware of the concussion issue and I don't know of a single player who doesn't take it seriously. I think the coaches and culture of football has changed greatly over the years and the game is much safer, at least at this level. The head seems to have been really taken out of the game properly. I also don't see the high speed kill shots that we seem to see on any random Saturday game. Even the NFL seems to take greater care than college players. Maybe college culture is behind the curve on this one? I dunno, my observations are anecdotal and not based upon any measurements so I could be wrong.Says who? Their parents? The kids themselves?
